Cat pulled her lips away and took a deep breath. She stared into Elena’s eyes and said, “I want to keep kissing you.”
A small smile played at the corner of Elena’s mouth. “I want you to, but…” Elena still held Cat close and she tore her eyes away to quickly look around.
Cat giggled. “Oh, yeah. We’re supposed to be watching the sunset, not making out on the dock of a very famous actress who is letting me host her book signing.”
“Bringing a lot of business to the bookstore,” Elena added with a giggle of her own.
She pressed her forehead to Cat’s and smiled. “I’ve had feelings for you for quite some time. I knew you didn’t trust your heart, so I kept them inside. I don’t want to do that any longer.”
“Thoughts have been swirling around my head and I’ve been so confused, but they keep leading me to you. When I’m with you, the confusion clears and I can breathe.”
“Will you be my next life?” Elena asked softly.
A loving smile crossed Cat’s face. “I think we’re living your next life.”
Elena grinned and pressed her lips to Cat’s once again. Before she could deepen the kiss, she pulled away and glanced over the lake. “Babe, look!”
The sun had changed into a deep orange ball that looked as if it was about to touch the water.
Cat gasped. “It looks like the lake is on fire.”
“Kind of like my heart,” Elena said, putting her arm around Cat’s shoulder.
Cat rested her head on Elena’s shoulder while they watched the sun put on a show. “I think my whole body is on fire from that kiss.”
“No more pretending,” Elena said quietly as she watched the sun slowly fall into the water.
“It never was. Now we know.”
“Now we know,” Elena whispered. “What do we do?”
“Well, babe,” Cat said, raising her head and smiling at Elena. “We’re going to go back inside and enjoy dinner with our new friends.” She chuckled.
“What’s so funny?”
“I feel like I can breathe again, but then again I can’t,” Cat said with a giggle.
“I’m confused,” Elena said, shaking her head as if to rid the bewilderment.
“I can breathe because now I know you feel the same way. But you take my breath away with a look, a touch, or especially a kiss.”
A big smile grew on Elena’s face. “Now you know how I feel.”
“We’d better go back up, but first I’m going to kiss you and you’re going to know how I feel,” Cat said.
The way Cat looked at her lit a fire inside Elena to rival the sunset they’d just witnessed.
Cat gently took Elena’s face between her hands and pressed their lips together. Elena’s hands squeezed Cat’s wrists and when Cat deepened the kiss, Elena thought her heart would race right out of her chest. Her arms went around Cat, mainly to hold on. Elena could feel Cat’s passion and desire with every stroke of her tongue and touch of her fingers on her cheeks.
Their kisses before were of wonder and affection. This kiss was filled with want, hunger, and lust. Elena couldn’t wait to find out where this kiss would lead them. Later.
Cat began to pull away, but Elena had to have just one more. When their lips separated, Elena pressed hers to Cat’s one more time.
“Mmm,” Cat moaned.
“Exactly,” Elena said, begrudgingly pulling away.
Cat smiled and stood up. She reached her hands out to Elena to pull her up.
