“Oh, will I get a peek later?”
Cat winked and walked to the table.
“Hey,” Cory said. “Glad y’all could make it.”
“Thanks for asking us,” Cat said, sitting across from Cory.
Elena took the seat next to Cat and tried to calm her rapidly beating heart.
“Tell me about this book signing you’re having at Your Next Great Read,” Vi said. “I love the name of your bookstore.”
Cat grinned. “Tara Holloway wants to start her book tour in our little establishment.”
“Our?” Vi asked.
Cat gave Elena a quick glance. “I feel like the bookstore belongs to all of us. We are still in the planning stages for the book signing. Tara and Lauren invited us out to their lake home.”
“Oh!” Cory exclaimed. “I made deliveries to them. It’s beautiful. I hope you can take in the sunset from their dock while you’re there.”
Vi looked over at her. “Who are you watching the sun set with on the lake?”
Cory chuckled. “Jealous? For your information, I was making a delivery and Tara invited me down to the dock where Lauren was waiting for her.”
“I’m not jealous because you’re all mine now.” Vi draped her arm across Cory’s shoulder and kissed her on the cheek.
“We’re supposed to go one evening later this week,” Elena said. “They were nice enough to invite me along as well.”
“It makes sense. You have to keep this fake relationship going. You never know who is around and word might get back to Hattie,” Cory said.
“We have that under control, don’t we?” Cat said, looping her arm through Elena’s where it rested on the table.
“Yeah, we do.”
“Here you go,” Talia said, setting their beers on the table. “Let me know when you need something else.”
“Thanks,” Cory said.
They all took generous drinks of their beers and Cat said, “Mmm, you’re right Vi. That’s a cold beer.”
“One thing I do know is where to get the best drinks,” Vi said.
“And what else?” Cory asked with a frown.
“That I love Cory Sloan.” Vi grinned.
Cat chuckled. “Okay, lovebirds. Tell us about this house news.”
“We were planning to have a relaxing day at Vi’s yesterday when Ella called.”
“By relaxing, do you mean making out or what?”
Cory nearly choked on her beer.
“I may have mentioned what we were doing yesterday when Cat called to invite us to watch movies,” Vi said sheepishly.
“Anyway,” Elena encouraged them.
“Ella showed us a house that we could see ourselves in,” Cory said.
