Alexis chuckled. “No, I had to check on a patient. I saw you pulling in and thought I’d see what you’re doing out so late. Were you at Elena’s?”
“You know me too well.” Cat grinned. “Actually, we went to Betty’s.”
“Oh gosh, I remember Cory’s birthday party there.” A sweet smile grew on Alexis's face.
“I remember it, too. You and CeCe couldn’t keep your eyes off each other.”
Alexis wiggled her eyebrows. “Can you blame me?”
“Not one bit.”
“So, was this a date? Have you opened your heart?”
17
Cat scoffed. “No, it wasn’t a date.”
“You’re dressed like it’s a date,” Alexis said.
Cat looked down at her outfit and back at Alexis. “I wanted to look nice.”
Alexis raised her eyebrows but didn’t say anything.
“You and CeCe were friends first, right?”
“Mmm, kind of,” Alexis said. “We didn’t hang out like you and Elena do, but I considered her a friend.”
Cat nodded.
“Do you think you and Elena are moving past friends?”
Cat shrugged.
“Maybe you should see if there’s more than friendship between you and Elena.”
“I don’t think I can do that. I can’t risk it.”
“You know, CeCe had boundaries. She doesn’t date her clients and when she told me I needed to get a new stylist, I had to do something. Look how that turned out,” Alexis said.
“Yeah, but what a risk.”
“The risk was worth it.”
“But what if you had lost her?” Cat said, stepping closer to Alexis’s open window.
“But I didn’t because I made sure she knew who I was and that we wanted the same things.”
Cat ran her teeth over her bottom lip, letting Alexis’s words swirl around her head with the other thoughts.
“You could just wait and see how it goes. Maybe Elena is having the same feelings.”
“Yeah, but…”
“What?”
“I guess CeCe told you about Cory. She’s madly in love with Vi and they’ll be engaged before we know it.”
Alexis scoffed. “You don’t know that.”
