“Uh, that was a little more than kissing,” Elena said, narrowing her gaze.

“That’s what you do to me,” Cat said, using Elena’s words from earlier.

Elena softly kissed Cat and smiled.

“Maybe I’ll wear these leggings more often.”

Cat chuckled. “Oh! I almost forgot, Vi is proposing to Cory!”

“That is big news. When?”

“Tomorrow night and we’re going to help,” Cat said. She explained Vi’s plan and what their jobs were in the surprise.

“Cory is going to be over the moon,” Elena said.

“I know!” Cat grinned. “I wanted to tell them about us, but I didn’t because this needs to be about Cory and Vi.”

Elena shrugged. “Do they need to know? Let’s just be ourselves, which means kissing and holding hands in public, and see if they notice Hattie isn’t around.”

“Oh that could be fun,” Cat said.

Elena straightened her pants and shirt then kissed Cat on the lips. “Just wait until you get home after work.”

Cat furrowed her brow. “I just remembered my car isn’t here.”

“I’ll come back and get you,” Elena said.

“How about you take me home, I pack a bag, and stay with you again tonight?”

“Or I can stay with you,” Elena suggested.

“Let’s stay at your place. There aren’t any exes roaming around who could pop in on us,” Cat said.

“Has Hattie been by your house?”

Cat shook her head. “Not yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she shows up some evening.”

“Okay.” Elena pulled Cat close and kissed her.

“Mmm,” Cat said. “We could’ve been doing this all along.”

“You’d never sell any books or toys, you’d be in here with me all the time,” Elena said.

“That’s true,” Cat said, unlocking the door and leading them back into the bookstore.

“I’ll come back and get you at closing,” Elena said, walking beside Cat.

Cat stopped and turned to her. “What? You’re not staying? You always stay for a while.”

“Don’t you have to work?”

“Yes, but we do this every day. Do you not want to stay?”

Elena smiled. “Of course I do. I wasn’t sure…”

Cat reached up and gently ran her fingers along Elena’s cheek. “Our time together each day is how we fell in love. Why would that change now?”
