“When?”
“Gia was telling me about the painting and when I looked over, you had the strangest look on your face.”
Out of the corner of her eye she saw Cory smile. “I’ll tell you all about it later. Since we’re staying at your place tonight, I wanted to ask if you’d like to stay with me tomorrow night after our volleyball games?”
Vi felt what had become a familiar flutter in her stomach. It always happened when she thought of or was with Cory. “I’d like that very much. Were you planning to stay for my game? You know my team plays after yours.”
“Yes I’m staying for your game. If you haven’t figured it out yet, I’d spend every minute possible with you.”
Vi raised her eyebrows and looked over at Cory.
“Uh oh, too much. Am I being a bulldozer?”
Vi laughed. “No, babe. I feel the same way and to be honest, I’ve never felt quite like this before. I mean, I’ve had girlfriends, but I always had to have my space.”
“I get that. Of course you need time to yourself.”
“Yeah, but I don’t think about it that way with you. Before…”
“When I was your enemy?”
“I wish you wouldn’t call it that. You were my…competitor.”
An easy grin fell over Cory’s face and Vi continued. “I thought about you a lot because I wondered where you were selling next.”
“And now?”
Vi smiled and kissed the back of Cory’s hand. “I think about you all the time. I wonder how your day is going and when I’ll get to see you again.” She knew that was a bit much, but Vi trusted Cory and knew she could be honest with her feelings, even if they were a little sappy.
“Is that why you like helping me in the store when you could be home?”
Vi nodded.
“You know, you wear the T-shirt better than anyone else,” Cory said.
Vi giggled. “I didn’t think I’d ever wear a shirt like that again, but I liked it.”
“What do you mean?”
“A uniform shirt for a store, like Spec’s or my parents’ store,” Vi clarified.
“Oh, I see,” Cory said. “Maybe it wasn’t the shirt, maybe it was who you were working with.”
“It was absolutely who I was working with,” Vi said, parking in her space. She reached over and pulled Cory's lips towards hers for a much needed kiss. “Did I tell you my boss saw us kissing in your pickup that day you came to my office?”
Cory’s eyes widened. “Oh no!”
Vi chuckled. “It’s okay. She approved even though we were making out in the parking lot.”
“Kissing you has become my favorite thing,” Cory said.
Vi closed her eyes as Cory’s lips nibbled and caressed hers. Damn, this woman can kiss.
“Let’s go in and maybe we’ll discover a new favorite thing.” Vi raised one eyebrow and smiled seductively.
A low chuckle escaped Cory’s throat and Vi felt a need throbbing deep inside her. She had to slow down because what she wanted to do was tear their clothes off and feel Cory’s skin next to hers. But she also wanted to savor every minute of discovering their bodies together.
She unlocked the front door and as Cory closed it, Vi found herself up against it, staring into those beautiful blue eyes.
