“It seemed to work for CeCe and Alexis, but I think they were already in love and afraid to admit it,” Cory said. “Violet and I have a long way to go. She’s considered me her enemy since we met.”
Melanie laughed. “She may say that, but there’s no way you could be anyone’s enemy, Cory Sloan.”
Cory grinned. “She did say something about me being adorable at one time.”
Krista laughed. “Oh, this is going to be fun.”
“I’d better do my job. I’ll see y’all tomorrow,” Cory said.
Cory filled glasses and chatted with family and friends, but her thoughts kept going back to Violet’s face when she’d kissed her on the cheek earlier that evening.
Cory couldn’t wait for tomorrow.

Vi opened her front door to a smiling Cory. “Hi.”
“Hi.” Cory grinned as she bounced on her toes. “I have to tell you up front that I’m really excited we’re doing this today. I’ll try to calm down.”
Vi chuckled. “Why don’t you come in,” she said, stepping aside so Cory could walk into her living room. “Did you have any trouble finding my place?”
“No. I’ve always liked these homes and wondered how fancy they were inside. This is really nice,” Cory said, looking around the room.
“Thanks. I’d rather live in a house, but I work so much that I don’t have time for yard work and the other things that go with home ownership.”
“Maybe that will change when you get your promotion.”
“We’ll see. I shouldn’t be working as many evenings and weekends.”
Cory looked out the window and turned to Vi. “That’s a nice pool. I’d be in it all the time.”
Vi laughed. “There is someone in it all the time during the summer. It gets pretty lively down there on the weekends. Would you believe this is the first time I’ve had my swimsuit on this summer?”
“Really? Every time I deliver to Lovers Landing I take time for a swim.”
“How nice.”
“I’m really glad we’re going to the lake today since you haven’t had a chance to swim this summer.”
“I know, another week or two and it’d probably be too cold.”
“I’ll keep you warm, Violet. I want us to have a wonderful day.”
“You really are excited.”
“I know, I’m trying not to be annoying,” Cory said.
Vi walked over to where Cory stood by the window. “You can be very annoying, but in a good way.” She took Cory’s face in her hands and smiled. “Maybe this will help with your excitement.”
Vi leaned in and pressed their lips together in a soft kiss. She had the strangest feeling overtake her body. It was as if her heart sighed with relief as their lips touched. Vi deepened the kiss and felt Cory’s arms wrap around her and pull her closer.
“Mmm,” Cory moaned as they pulled away. “If you think that’s going to make my excitement any less, you are mistaken.”
Vi giggled. “Take me to the lake. We have all day, don’t we?”
“Yes, we do. But—” Cory brought their lips together again and they both moaned with pleasure.
“I just needed one more kiss.” Cory grinned.
