“Oh, Ella, this is gorgeous,” Vi exclaimed.

“You can see there’s another smaller patio right through the door,” Ella said.

“Look in here,” Gia said from the bathroom.

Cory joined her where there was a large tub with a separate shower on one side and two sinks below large mirrors on the other.

“I don’t think you’ll have any problem with closet space,” Gia said.

A door in the bathroom opened into a generous closet with two built in chests.

“This is amazing,” Vi said, taking it all in.

“We’re going to go back to the living area and let you roam around,” Ella said, taking Gia’s hand and leaving the room.

Vi walked back into the bedroom and gazed out the large windows to the backyard. Cory stood beside her and could see them ending their day together in this room.

“Is this what we’re supposed to do?” Vi asked, stepping in front of Cory and holding both her hands. “Do we fall in love, buy a house, have kids, and then what? Do we grow old together?”

Cory tilted her head and smiled. “You just described a typical timeline for most people. But Violet, we aren’t most people. We can do this however we want. It’s our time, remember? That’s what you told me that day at the lake. We get to do our life together however we decide.”

“I love you,” Vi said.

“And I love you. But maybe this is too much. We’re still waiting for your promotion. These are big life things happening all at once. I don’t care where we live as long as we’re together. We can keep doing what we’re doing until it’s the right time.”

Vi smiled. “This feels like the right time. I can see us in this house.”

“Why do you still seem surprised by that?”

Vi shrugged. “I had this idea of us repainting and buying new furniture, making your house ours.”

Cory squeezed Vi’s hands and waited.

“I have found since falling in love with you, just when I think I know what’s going to happen, something better comes along,” Violet said.

“Hmm.” Cory grinned. “Since falling in love with you, everything is better.”

“Is it? I want to make you happier than you ever dreamed,” Vi said.

“You already do.” Cory wanted to be sure Vi understood how happy she had made her and the best way to do that was with a kiss. When their lips met Cory’s heart opened and all the love Vi had put there plus the love Cory had for her flowed into Vi’s heart. The moan vibrating deep in Vi’s throat let Cory know Vi felt it too.

They pulled apart and Vi said, “What do you see when you look in this backyard?”

Cory smiled, put her arm around Vi, and looked out over the yard. “I see your nephews playing.”

“I have more than just nephews.”

“I can’t wait to meet my new family,” Cory said.

“Those kids won’t be here but a couple of times a year, if that. What else do you see?”

“I see us sitting on this little patio gazing up at the stars or talking about our day. I see us working side by side in the office we make out of one of the guest rooms.”

“Go on.” Vi smiled, rubbing her hand up and down Cory’s back.

“I see us cooking together in that nice kitchen, but I also see us doing what we were doing before Ella called.”

“Making out in our living room.” Vi giggled.
