“I’m guessing the ones that are invited on a non-date with an incredible hairstylist,” Melanie said with a wink. “Her sister may have mentioned her rules. Or maybe she is no longer your hair stylist?”

Alexis felt her cheeks pinken.

“Yes, Doc, your name may have come up and that blush on your cheeks is adorable,” Krista said. “Don’t worry, we won’t tell anyone.”

“I do have a new hairstylist, but this is not a date on Saturday.”

“Why not?” Melanie asked.

“We agreed our first official date will be next week,” Alexis explained. She furrowed her brow and looked at Melanie and Krista. “Hey, y’all wouldn’t have any ideas for a unique first date would you? Anyone can go out to dinner.”

“Hmm, that will give me something to think about while you fix up my wife,” Melanie said with a smile.

Alexis nodded. “This has not been the most professional pre-surgery visit. I apologize for that.”

“No need, Alexis. We were thrilled to see the Sloan sisters last weekend, then when your name came up… Let me just say there was quite a sparkle in CeCe’s eyes,” Krista said.

Alexis couldn’t keep from smiling.

“It kind of matched the sparkle in your eyes when I said CeCe’s name,” Melanie added.

“CeCe told me about her visit and your invitation,” Alexis shared.

“We’d love to have you both stay the night. We’re planning a night of karaoke and dancing,” Krista said.

“However, we’re not trying to push you too fast. There are two bedrooms in the cabin,” Melanie said.

Alexis smiled. Like we’ll be sleeping in separate bedrooms. Then she remembered what they’d both said about the next time they had sex: in a bed and they’d take their time.

“I’m sure the cabin will be perfect,” Alexis said. “Now, we’ve got to get this procedure done. Let me put on my surgeon’s face. I do not foresee any complications or problems. As soon as we’re finished I’ll come talk to you, Melanie.”

“Okay. The nurse showed me the waiting area.”

Alexis reached over and squeezed Krista’s other hand. “I’ll see you in a few minutes.”

“Thank you, Alexis.”

Alexis winked and left the cubicle.

“I see love on the horizon, babe. How about you?” Krista said, watching Alexis leave.

“They both have that look in their eyes, but may not realize it just yet. Hey, we need to concentrate on you.” Melanie leaned down and kissed Krista tenderly on the lips. “I’ll be right here when you wake up.”

“I know,” Krista said softly. “I love you.”

Melanie smiled. “Oh, baby. I love you.”

“Are you ready, Ms. Kyle?” a nurse said, walking into the cubicle. “We’re here to take you to Dr. Reed. She’s the best.”

“Yes, she is,” the other nurse said, unlocking the wheels on the bed.

“See you soon, love,” Krista said to Melanie as they wheeled her away.

An hour later Alexis found Melanie in the waiting room. The anticipation and hope in a loved one’s face always struck Alexis keenly. The look on Melanie’s face was no different when she saw Alexis walking towards her.

Melanie hopped up and Alexis could see her trying to read her face. Alexis gave her a reassuring smile and reached for her hand. “Let’s sit.”

Once they were seated, Alexis looked into Melanie’s eyes. “The procedure went well.”
