Alexis laughed. “Are you sure it’s Lana who wants to know?”
“Alexis, this is the first time in years I’ve seen you have more than a passing interest in another person. Of course I want to know!”
“Her name is CeCe Sloan,” Alexis began.
“I knew it!” Donna exclaimed from the doorway. She walked in, set several files on Alexis's desk, and sat down in the chair next to Michael. “That’s her hair dresser. Every time she has an appointment she comes back smiling and is happy for a week,” she explained to him.
Wide-eyed, Alexis looked at Donna. “What the…”
“It’s true.” Donna shrugged.
“Well?” Michael said, staring at Alexis.
“She was my hairstylist, but now she’s my friend and—”
“They’re going on a date tonight!” Michael said excitedly to Donna.
Alexis couldn’t quite believe her ears or eyes. She wasn’t an unhappy person, but to hear Michael and Donna talk, she didn’t smile very often. It wouldn’t be a stretch to say she was very focused at work, but she did have peoples’ lives in her hands.
She leaned back in her chair and thought about the past few days. Her attention was still on her patients, but when she had a spare moment her thoughts drifted to CeCe. Alexis couldn’t not smile when CeCe crossed her mind, so she certainly was smiling more often.
“Where are you taking her?” Donna asked.
“Like I would tell either one of you!” Alexis exclaimed. “That’s enough about my love life. I have patients to see, so if you two will excuse me.” Alexis got up, shooed them out of her office and closed the door. Then she leaned against it and smiled.

“Is this date going to be as good as the one at Lovers Landing?” CeCe asked coyly as Alexis drove them towards downtown.
“I didn’t think that was a date,” Alexis replied with a grin, glancing over at CeCe. “You know, you’re putting a lot of pressure on me for this date to be spectacular.”
“Hmm, you don’t think I’m the kind of woman who should be wooed on a spectacular date?”
Alexis sighed contentedly as she thought back to their weekend at Lovers Landing. It had only been a few days, but she couldn’t wait to see CeCe again. Donna had seen a change in Alexis and had bombarded her with questions all week, wanting to know how she’d spent her weekend and what caused the change in her usually stoic doctor.
“You’re thinking about last weekend, aren’t you?” CeCe asked, reaching for Alexis's hand. “I’ll admit it may have crossed my mind a time or two in the last few days.”
Alexis chuckled at CeCe’s attempt at nonchalance. Last weekend was special for both of them and Alexis hoped that same vibe would continue tonight.
“You don’t have surgery tomorrow?” CeCe asked, pulling Alexis's hand into her lap.
“Nope, but that doesn’t mean you can’t relax me the way you did before Krista’s surgery.” Alexis wiggled her eyebrows suggestively.
CeCe chuckled. “We’ll see about that.”
That little chuckle had become one of Alexis's favorite sounds along with the little moans that their kisses seemed to elicit from both of them.
Alexis could feel CeCe gently tracing her fingertip into her palm as she took the exit that would take them to the streets that criss-crossed through the jungle of tall buildings and skyscrapers.
“You really are taking me downtown,” CeCe said, looking up at the tall buildings as Alexis navigated the one-way street.
“I am,” Alexis replied, glancing at the street names displayed next to the stoplights they proceeded under. Alexis turned into an opening in the middle of the block that led them into a parking garage. She drove them up and up until she steered into a parking space near the elevator that led to the apartment building adjacent to the garage.
Alexis looked over at CeCe and smiled. “Ready for a little urban adventure?”
CeCe grinned. “I’m always ready for an adventure with you.”
They got out of the car and, hand in hand, walked the short distance to the elevator. Once inside Alexis punched the button for the top floor. The doors closed and Alexis took CeCe into her arms. She smiled then kissed her softly. When she pulled away the bell dinged in the elevator indicating they’d reached the top floor.
