“Who’s looking down on you? Did someone say something?”
She proceeds to tell me about her meeting with Mr. Hillman’s son earlier and the news he sprang on her. I’ve heard of situations like this before, and while most families feel they’re doing things in the best interests of their loved ones, sometimes that’s not always the case. I know how much Liz means to Mr. Hillman and I can only imagine what this is doing to him, too.
“Did he say when he’s planning to put the house up for sale? Surely he isn’t going to force you to move anytime soon.”
“I know I can’t sit around and wait. He didn’t give me a time frame but I know the house will sell quickly. It’s in excellent condition and someone will snatch it up.”
“Wow!” I wish there was something I could say, but I’m speechless.
Each day that passes I fall a little bit more in love with her. I’ve told her as much, but I also know how hesitant she is to take the next step—I’m not the only one who’s had a run of bad relationships. I don’t doubt how much she cares for me, but more than anything, I want her to make choices in life that will bring her happiness. She’s a beautiful person, inside and out, and if we’re meant to be together, then we’ll find a way to make it work.
I grab hold of Liz’s hand and lead her to the door. “We’ll clean this up later. Come on, let’s go across the street to the beach.”
I’m surprised we’re the only ones out here tonight, considering it’s a full moon. We find a spot in the sand and I wrap my arms around her and pull her close.
“I love you, Liz.”
The sound of the waves crashing into the shore drown her cries of pleasure. Taking her hips in my hands, I ease her up and down. When I feel her walls tighten against me for the second time, there isn’t a doubt in my mind that she feels as much love for me as I feel for her.
“You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me,” she whispers then collapses into my arms.
Chapter Thirteen
Liz
I roll over and stare at the most handsome man in the world. These last few months have been surreal and I can’t help wondering if it’s all been a dream.
“Good morning, beautiful.” Dean’s voice is gravelly, and still filled with sleep.
I trail my fingers down the side of his face, all the while staring intently into his eyes. “I love you, baby.”
Lifting my arm above his head, Dean slides his body into mine and presses his lips against my own. “I’m going to miss having you around here,” he manages to say between kisses.
A tear forms in the corner of my eye and he quickly brushes it away. I’ve never felt this way about anyone and it’s tearing me apart knowing today is the day I’m leaving. Though we’ve both agreed this isn’t goodbye, I know with the distance and Dean’s schedule, we’ll eventually grow apart. Distance has never been my friend.
“I’m going to miss you, too.”
I roll onto my back while Dean crawls on top of me. I spread my legs, allowing him to easily slide inside of me. Not only am I going to miss him, but I’m going to miss these magical moments together. The way we fit so fluidly, so flawlessly…
I grab hold of his hips, forcing him to go deeper My breathing intensifies and before I know it, I’m shouting his name.
“Dean. Ohhh… Dean!”
“That’s it, baby. Right there,” he pants.
Dean rests his head against my chest while he waits for his breathing to return to normal. I sweep my hand across his back as beads of sweat form underneath my fingertips.
I never knew what it was like to make love to a man until he came along. And it’s something I’ll never forget.
“Liz,” he whispers my name, taking me away from the lust-filled thoughts that had clouded my head just moments ago.
“Yes?”
“I’ve been thinking. Thinking about me. You. Us.”
Damn it, don’t’ do this to me.
My body begins to tremble.
