Having this many people openly breaking the law would distract cops and clog up resources, leaving Andrés free to move and conduct business the way he saw fit.

The bastard.

“When will this deal go down?” I asked.

“It’s on the…” Amy trailed off suddenly, her gaze dropping away as a presence appeared at my shoulder.

Turning, I came face to face with Trask.

“What’s going on?” Trask asked. “Are we letting her go or what?”

Something wasn’t right.

“No, we’re not letting her go,” I said. “We were just talking, calming her down so she didn’t claw my eyes out when I put cuffs on her.”

“Alright,” Trask muttered and I didn’t miss the flash of relief that crossed Amy’s face.

“Did you call it in?” I asked.

Trask gave me a blank look.

“The second unit and the tow?” I clarified.

“Oh! Right, sorry.” Trask stepped away and pulled out his radio, calling in my request.

“Turn around, Amy.”

I took the cuffs from my belt and as I locked them around Amy’s wrists, I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong. Had Trask been so focused on eavesdropping that he forgot to call it in, or was he just distracted? The male suspect didn’t seem to put up much resistance.

In the back of my mind, a lingering thread of suspicion started to grow. We still had no idea how the Cartel found Selena in the hospital or how they tracked down Matt at the exact same time as we did.

My gaze lingered on Trask as we waited for the second unit, unable to decipher exactly where my suspicion was going, and I stayed with Amy until I’d settled her inside the second car.

With the tow on its way, I headed back for the car and my now likely cold burrito. As I walked, I pulled out my phone and sent a quick text to Bailey.

‘We have to talk to the Captain, immediately.’

BAILEY

“Iapplied a little more pressure when I was processing her,” Tyler finished, leaning back in the soft leather chair.

He’d spent the past twenty minutes filling the Captain in on all the information he managed to secure from the Escort he arrested earlier that day.

“Did she give you anything else we can use?” The Captain’s gaze slid from me to Tyler and he straightened up a fraction now that she was watching him directly.

Tyler had already filled me in before this meeting and we’d come up with a plan. A kind of crazy plan but given how long this shit against Andrés has gone on for, it was about time we just took a shot at him.

“Yes. She explained that he’s hosting a party downtown. Won’t be hard to pinpoint where given how fucking extravagant his parties are,” Tyler explained. His lips pressed together, and our gazes met for a silent second.

“So,” I continued for him, and Aubrey’s razor-sharp gaze snapped to me. “We want to put eyes on the party. This is some showy business deal, we know that without even trying. That bastard is always rubbing his activities in our faces because he knows we can’t ever get anything to stick. If we could get someone inside, maybe even Tyler since he doesn’t have direct history.”

“You think he’ll slip up at the party?” Aubrey’s brow pinched together slightly, the only indication that she was on the same wavelength as us.

“Exactly.” Fiddling with the band of my watch, I continued on. “I think it’s a show of power. The robbery is pretty high profile and so far, Andrés has nothing to show for it. He doesn’t have Marcus and he’s racking up failed attempts against Selena.”

“He did kill Matt,” Tyler pointed out.
