“So there he is. He looks… so ordinary, except for the eyes.”
“Ordinary, forgettable, but the eyes are off. Kiki, at least, saw that. Make it work.”
“I can do that. Seems I timed this well,” he added as he worked the keyboard and swipe rather than the voice command.
She’d have never figured that out, Eve admitted, and leaned over his shoulder as the split screen ran faces by.
“It may take a bit of time.”
Taking him at his word, she hurried out to the bullpen.
“Peabody, we’ve got a face. We’re running it. Contact Reo, get her ready to get us warrants. Arrest, search and seizure once we have a name and address.”
She went back to her office, where Roarke drank her coffee and watched the faces fly.
“Weak jaw,” she said. “Still got some baby fat in the cheeks. Nose just a little too big for symmetry, thin mouth, then the eyes. No pretty boy, this one. And the eyes—”
“Aren’t a boy’s at all, are they? They’re years older than the face.”
“That’s right. That’s right.” She grabbed her signaling ’link.
“Dallas.”
“Allisandra, home after a wild and exhilarating ride. I believe my driver was nearly as thrilled as I was.”
“Give me a damn name.”
“Happy to. I purchased those shoes, as well as many pieces over the last several years, for the son of Dr. Nolan Bryce. I have the son as—”
“Francis Bryce,” Eve said when the yearbook photo hit and matched.
“That’s correct. I haven’t been to the residence often, and not in some time, as the client most usually requests straight delivery, or has me package and messenger. But I recall it’s a lovely home.”
She read off an address on the Upper East Side.
“Thanks.”
“Listen—”
But Eve cut her off.
“Let’s move. Peabody,” she called out as she half jogged into the bullpen. “Francis Bryce, father Dr. Nolan Bryce.” She added the address.
“Move it, and get those warrants.”
“Go get him, Loo!” Jenkinson called out.
“Fucking A,” Eve responded as she ran to the glides.
Chapter Twenty
“Peabody, run the father.”
“Already am.”
“You drive,” Eve said to Roarke. “What are you doing here?”
“Some business downtown, and you’re nearing end of shift. Seems I timed it well. Yancy came through then?”
