Page 60 of Breaker

I break shit, I don't cry.

"Let it out, son, I've got you, I've got you…" he murmurs, and I do as he states. I let it out as the fear of losing my woman consumes me, the image of a gun pointed at my son haunting me.

I don't know how long we sit here, but brother after brother come and sit along the wall. Crow on my right, Jack on my left, all waiting to hear about my girl. I look up and make eye contact with Snake, rasping, "How's Sarah?"

He half smiles. "Being a pain in the ass. I've locked her in our room with the kids to stop her from coming out here and sitting with you all."

I snort. "Brother, your shit is going to be destroyed or dyed pink."

He sighs, dropping his head back, making the brothers chuckle. My phone rings and I smile, knowing who it is. I answer without looking at the screen, putting the phone on speaker.

"No news yet, Ken," I rasp, causing Lola, who decided to sit near the end of the hallway, to sit up straight.

Kennedy sniffles. "She saved Noah, Alex."

My tears fall as I reply, "I know, darling, I know."

She takes a deep breath. "I'm…uh, I'm coming home, Alex."

I sigh. "Kennedy…."

She snaps, "No. Noah was hurt, Quinn's been shot, Lola was attacked, Smokey lost his memory…. I'm coming home. The program finishes in a month. They offered me a full-time position, but so has Memorial, with accommodation nearby. I've made my mind up; I'm coming home."

The brothers all sigh in relief, and I sniffle. "It'll be good to have you home, Ken. I've missed you."

She sighs. "It'll be hard, but as long as Doc knows to stay clear and the brothers understand why I won't be around the club, then it'll be fine." The brothers flinch before she rasps, "I'm going to stay on the phone until you have news. I need to know she'll be okay."

I smile, lean against Crow, and murmur, "That sounds good to me, darling."

We sit here for a while, no one talking as we all wait for news on my girl. I keep my eyes closed and the phone to my ear as visions of Quinn's beautiful smile flow through me, and my tears fall.

Ken must hear my breathing change because she whispers, "Tell me the first time you and Quinn met."

I smile, not opening my eyes, and ask, "Which time do you want to hear about?"

She's quiet for a minute before asking, "There's two?"

I chuckle and admit, "Noah was only roughly two at the time. Some woman tried to chat me up in the street. He'd just started expressing how he felt by throwing things on people." Kennedy chuckles. "He knocked the woman's coffee all over her, when she got too close for comfort, but ended up dropping his stuffie in process. I didn't notice. Quinn tried to interrupt to let me know and pass it to him, and I may have accused her of being a patch chaser."

Jack laughs, causing me to look at him. "I remember her coming home after that. Momma had set her up with that jackass Donny, which went horrible, as expected, but instead of being riled up over her date with a drug dealer, she was riled up about being called a patch chaser after trying to be nice by handing a toy back to a kid."

I grin wide and admit, "It's good to know that I had an effect on her instantly, even then."

Kennedy chuckles before the door opens behind me, and I stand. Paul smiles at me and nods.

"She's going to be okay. Doc and I managed to get the bullet out of her shoulder. It just missed her artery, so she was lucky."

I let my body drop against the wall as a sob leaves my throat, causing Paul to squeeze my shoulder as Kennedy cries in my ear. I hand the phone to Momma, who smiles a watery smile at me and rasps, "Ken?"

Paul looks at me, then nods to the room, and states, "She's asking for you."

I nod as brother after brother pat my back. I walk into the room. Doc smiles at me, and I shake my head at the half-smile my girl gives.

"Hey you," she rasps, and I sob, running a hand through my hair.

Her eyes tear up, and Doc looks at me with concern before I approach my girl. I lean down and place my face into the crook of her neck, while her fingers go into my hair, gripping it.

"I'm okay, I promise," she whispers as a door closing hits my ears, indicating Doc is giving us space.
