“I don’t have any other standards to measure you by, but I would give you an A plus. It was incredible,” she said.

“You’re going to make my head swell with the ego boost if you keep talking like that,” Micah said.

Lucy grinned.

“So, keep talking like that,” Micah teased.

“I think that your ego is quite big enough,” Lucy said. “Maybe I should have done what a lot of employers do when giving evaluations. I should grade you low because there is always room to improve.”

“I’ve always thought that was a terrible practice. I always give my employees the review they deserve, whether it’s great or not. You did right by giving me high marks.”

“I guess that means if times ever get difficult you could always become a gigolo and service lonely women. You can give them a scorecard and ask for tips above your going rate if you get good marks.”

“I guess you would be my pimp and take twenty percent?”

“Sixty percent,” Lucy joked. “I have to be able to pay for my gold chains, gold grill, and a cool ride.”

“You’re tough,” Micah said.

“It’s a dog-eat-dog world,” Lucy replied.

Micah was glad that Lucy was relaxed enough to joke around with him and that she had enjoyed herself. He had to admit that it had been more than just a good fuck. Although he couldn’t define it, there had been some kind of connection between the two of them that made this time feel different than it ever had in the past with other women.

She sat up and yawned. “I’m tired, so I’m going to take a nap.”

Lucy got dressed and walked to the door. “You’ll call me, right?” Laughing, she winked at him and left.

Micah laid back on the bed with his hands laced behind his head. He was surprised that he felt a little disappointed. Cuddling together, and maybe napping together, sounded amazing. The bed felt empty after she left.

What is wrong with you? You got what you wanted. You put your seed in her and hopefully created the baby.

Something deep in his soul wanted more. A niggle in the back of his mind told him that Lucy was starting to mean more to him than just the person who would carry his child and then fade out. He enjoyed hanging out with her and looked forward to seeing her.

There is no way that I’m starting to develop feelings for her, am I?

He stared at the ceiling and sighed. Micah had to admit to himself that there was a tug inside of him when he was with her. He was happy and relaxed while they were hanging out. There was also the fact that she didn’t have any expectations as to how he should act, since he had a few dollars in the bank. She accepted him for who he was at face value.

Micah worked in his office for a couple of hours. After he finished some paperwork, he went in search of Lucy. She was in the gazebo. Her fingers were on the keyboard of her computer, but she was staring off into space.

“Lost in space again?” he asked.

She screamed and almost knocked her computer off the table. “Don’t sneak up behind me,” she said, pointing her finger at him. “I once stabbed a guy who did that to me.”

“You did?” Micah asked, surprised.

“Yes. I had a pen in my hand. He came up behind me and gave me a wet willy. I automatically jerked my hand back and the pen went about a quarter of an inch inside of him.”

“If someone licked their finger and stuck it in my ear, I would probably stab them, too.”

They walked around the garden and talked. Micah couldn’t remember the last time he relaxed and enjoyed the colorful blooms that exploded on his land. He lost track of time and was surprised when his phone buzzed.

“Vera said it’s time to eat.”

After dinner, they watched the first two Annabelle movies in Lucy’s sitting room. They snuggled up close and snacked on popcorn and black cherry Kool-Aid.

“I can’t remember when I last drank Kool-Aid,” Micah said. “I think you’re a bad influence on me.”

“Well, I can’t have beer or wine, and it wouldn’t be nice if you drank it in front of me,” Lucy said. “If I have to suffer, so do you.”
