“What’s going on with you?” River asked from the passenger’s seat as I drove us to work.

“Nothing.”

“Liar.” He pinched my thigh.

I slapped his hand away. “Just have a lot on my mind.”

He studied me for a few beats. “You’re worried about Noah.”

I shrugged.

“Why?” he asked.

“He was off last night.”

“What do you mean?”

“When he drove me home. He was nervous and jittery.”

“Did you talk about what happened?”

“No. Why would we?”

He rolled his eyes, letting his head flop back dramatically so he was looking up at the ceiling of the car. “You are as hopeless as me sometimes.”

“What?”

“So you guys fucked in a pantry during a party, which outed you both to everyone. Then immediately after, you bailed on him to go ‘deal with something’ and you didn’t talk to him about any of this in the thirty minutes you spent in his truck after?”

“Shit.” My heart dropped.

“Yeah. You done fucked up, bro.”

I sighed and turned onto the street that would take us to our jobsite. “I don’t know how to do this.”

“Do what?”

“Any of this. Relationships. Situationships. Whatever the fuck we are. I don’t understand any of this shit.”

“So learn.”

“You say that like it’s so simple.”

“Isn’t it?” He sipped his coffee. “You might not know what to do, but you can always ask people. Ask Noah what he wants or what he needs. Ask Gray or Nick if you need another opinion. I’d say ask me but I have about as much experience with relationships as you.” He snorted into his cup. “This thing with Noah has lasted longer than anything I’ve ever tried to have.”

“That’s because you keep matching with the wrong girls.”

“Yeah.” He grinned wryly. “Eventually I have to find my someone, right? Law of averages, or whatever that is. But back to you and Noah. Are you dating, or?”

“Yes?”

“You don’t know?”

“I mean, we came out to everyone. I let him take my virginity in a goddamn pantry. Obviously we’re together.” I glanced at River, who was giving me a seriously? look. “Right?”
