Good? I smile slightly in response; I feel Alexander’s warm but commanding presence surround me again.
“Angel, keep your eyes closed okay, but I have something to tell you.”
I hear excitement in Alexander’s tone, why would he be excited.
“Angel, do you remember being really sick and vomiting?”
I nod slightly, “Y-Yes, b-bad.”
“Well, my love, that’s because you’re pregnant, we’re going to–”
Alexander is cut off and Alexa’s voice says excitedly, “Theaw is two babies, Mommy, two!”
My eyes fly open and I see their happy slightly blurred faces.
“Hooyah.” Booms again filtering throughout the quiet space.
“Angel, we’re having identical twins.” I’m shocked, and my blurred vision is now swimming in tears.
“B-babies? O-okay?” My mind is trying to process what Alexander is saying but it’s foggy.
“Yes, Angel, you protected our babies, and they are perfectly healthy and growing nicely.”
“A-Accident? Alexa, Dad... o-okay?”
Just as I finish, I hear Dad’s voice choke out, “I’m here, sweet girl, and I sure am glad to see your pretty blue eyes.”
“H-Hurt?”
“Can’t keep me down, sweetheart, it’ll take more than that to take me from my girls, you just worry about you getting better, you’re carrying my grandbabies and you’ve just made this old frog’s day.”
I breathe out a long breath, and feel my strength waning, “P-Pregnant, wow, I-I d-didn’t take a test, w-waiting for y-you to come h-home.”
“I’m home, now that you’re awake, Angel.” Alexander says quietly.
“H-home.” I say as I feel the darkness pulling me under. No, I don’t want to sleep, I want to know more, I need to know how long I’ve been in hospital.
‘Mommy, Mommy, please no.’
Alexa’s sad little voice is the last thing I hear before the darkness overshadows me and pulls me under.
CHAPTER NINE
ALEXANDER
Doc walked back into the room just as Lily drifted off to sleep. He told all of us that Lily will have periods of being unconsciousness and awake and that it’s perfectly normal, he administered the lubricating eye drops to Lily’s eyes in hope they’ll help when Lily wakes next. Doc checked all her stats on the machines and said that Lily’s vitals are great and that she managed to be awake for a decent amount of time which is a really good sign.
Alexa was beside herself upset and wouldn’t leave Lily’s side even to have dinner. So, she’s wrapped around Lily sleeping and snuggled into her side like she’s been doing from the start. She too needing to heal her little heart, because not having the person you love really be with you takes a toll. I think Alexa being with Lily is the best therapy for them both, and I kissed my girls on their foreheads before heading to Psych ward.
Caroline is much better visually but her mental health is another issue. She doesn’t lose her shit and scream each time we see her now; the Psychologist is working with Doc closely and think they are starting to break through her damaged mind. Doc has suggested that Caroline being united with Lily would help her to trust, but there is always the danger of Caroline still harboring hatred for Lily because she was taken when she believes it was meant to be Lily kidnapped, so we’ve decided it’s best for Janelle to see Caroline first.
We enter Janelle’s room and her face lights up. Every time I see Janelle she looks more like Lily, but because Janelle and Caroline have been through some really hard years their resemblance is stronger.
“Hi, Alexander, Hi, Doc.” Janelle chirps happily with a welcoming smile.
“Hi, Janelle,” we both respond, Doc sits down in front of her and grabs her hands as I sit beside her.
“We have some good news, Janelle, Elizabeth has woken up and is doing well.”
