Page 16 of Liberating Mallory

“I’m Switzerland. I don’t need to hear this shit.” Diesel said, hands in the air as she walked away.

“Hey Jordyn, wanna go annoy Diesel with me?” Pratt said, evil grin on her face as she walked away from Carter, ignoring his words.

“Lead the way!” Jordyn said as she walked with Pratt. “Question though, if Mallory wasn’t on base, how would the case fall under NCIS? She’s been on vacation so technically her case falls under the local pd.”

“If she’s already dead, yes, it would fall under Sheriff Collins, with NCIS working with them. But, since she’s been kidnapped, NCIS is technically supposed to be on this case. We’ve already talked to Sheila, who’s keeping tabs on the case with us. One phone call and her ass is on the next plane here, taking it out of Collin’s hands and automatically making it a federal case.”

“Damn, Carter is right, you’re an evil genius.” Jordyn laughed as she shook her head.

Carter walked out of the interrogation room with a smirk on his face, ignoring the blubbering attorney complaining about being denied access to his client right away. Carter walked towards where the women were standing, talking with Sheriff Collins who also ignored the attorney attempting to follow Carter.

“I know you’re not going to harass a civilian!” Diesel stepped between Carter and the attorney.

“He violated my clients rights, now step aside woman!” The attorney demanded, attempting to step around Diesel.

“I’m sorry, did you just demand that Detective Diesel step aside and insult her?” Pratt questioned, stepping between Diesel and the attorney, getting into his face.

“Who the hell…”

“The detective who’s about to have your ass tossed in jail next to your client if you don’t back the hell off. Go talk to your client while we wait for NCIS to show up and charge your client with the charges they are going to file against him and his friend Bo!” Pratt advised the attorney as she stepped further into his space.

“You’re insubordinate and I will have you brought up on charges! I will have your badge!” The attorney screamed, getting red in the face, poking Pratt in the chest.

“P-R-A-T-T…make you sure you spell my name correctly, dumbass. Not sure what army you plan to bring with you, but you can try, little man, but you won’t get anywhere. Your client is being brought up on federal charges. I hope you’re good enough to get him off. Because the evidence we have on him, alone, will convict him for kidnapping, assault on an officer, threatening an officer, and if we don’t find the victim of said kidnapping real soon, well, I’m sure the military will go further and charge your client with homicide.” Pratt smirked really smugly at the attorney.

The attorney started to stab Pratt with his finger again, Carter stepped forward, putting himself into the attorney’s space along with Sheriff Collins. The attorney, seeing the two men crowd him for touching the female detective, stepped back, stumbling a little.

“Barnes, you touch that detective again, I will not be responsible for what her team does to you for touching her. I will also bring you up on assault charges for poking a pregnant female in the chest, trying to assert your alpha man bullshit that even your wife has told you to fuck off with.” Sheriff Collins warned the attorney, staring him down.

“Where is my client?” The attorney gritted through clenched teeth, glaring at the sheriff.

“Deputy Marco, please show Barnes where his client is before he gets his ass handed to him by a pregnant female. While I’d pay good money to watch her beat his ass, I really like mine where it is and do not need her husband coming after me.” Sheriff Collins ordered his deputy that was standing nearby, not breaking eye contact with the attorney.

“Is there a chance he’s related to the client or boo hoo boy in the hospital?” Pratt asked, watching the attorney stomp away towards the room where Rodney was currently being kept.

“Boo hoo boy?” Sheriff Collins asked, amusement in his voice.

“Yeah, the asshat that got his winkie shot off.” Pratt answered without missing a beat on the question.

Sheriff Collins chuckled before he sighed deeply. “No, they aren’t related. But I can say Barnes has a pretty bad reputation amongst law enforcement. He’s sneaky as hell and is well protected among the criminal elite.”

“Um, how did he know his client was here? We didn’t call, nor did Rodney have a chance to call his attorney.” Diesel asked, looking around at everyone in their small group.

“Someone else was up there on the ridge watching them. They knew what was going on.” Jordyn advised everyone. “Opie and I found some footprints up in the woods. You could see the truck from where they were. We were in the process of tracking them when the gun went off, so we had to haul ass back to where Raso and Diesel were.”

“They knew she was heading that way. It was probably a team of two. One team in the woods watching, being the lookout and then a team to abduct her. Taz, you and Raso take on Bo. He’s already petrified of her, since she shot his winkie dinkie off. Play on it.” Pratt said, looking around for her Sgt. to give her the plan.

“What are you going to do?” Raso asked Pratt, concern in her voice.

“Sheriff, can you find our Sgt. and let her know we need to speak with her, please?” Pratt asked, giving the sheriff an easy out.

“Plausible deniability. Got it.” Sheriff Collins laughed as he walked away.

“Red on the head, what are you up to?” Carter asked, his voice between amusement and concern.

“Rodney knows something. He was in on the kidnapping. It’s too much of a coincidence that not only is he Greenly’s cousin, but he was there to find out what we were doing with that truck. Carter, can you get with Brody, find a secluded place where no one will disturb us. It’s time we do an interrogation of our own. See if we can’t get Rodney away from his attorney first.”
