So I just tried to keep my mind blank from all thoughts, breathing in deeply, taking in the manly musk of him.

It was reassuring, and even though my stomach was still rolling, the fact that Coulter was by my side gave me strength.

We had almost reached the top and, just before the bell dinged like a death knoll, Coulter suddenly wrapped an arm around me and pulled me to face with him. "No matter what happens in there, know that I will have your back, even if it doesn't seem like it."

Then he leaned down and kissed me.

My lips parted in surprise but by the time the doors had opened, he'd pulled away and was exiting the elevator.

I stared after him.
