“Well…” Gunthard leads my girl upstairs, where Declan designed a huge bedroom. “See the bed? Poor Gunthard sleeps all alone every night.” He sighs heavily as he makes his character roll onto one side of the bed. “How he wishes he had someone to share his bed with.” Declan sighs again.

“Oh, all right. But just for a quick nap. Valarina has a lot of adventure planned for today.”

I direct my character to lie on the other side of the bed, but she falls down right on top of Gunthard.

“Hey!” Declan cries. “What’s the big idea?”

“Dude, I told her to sleep on the other side.”

I try again to have her sleep on the empty side, but she just goes splat on top of Gunthard.

“The spoiled princess wants my side of the bed?” Declan says. “Well, all right. I’ll give in to her demand this time. But mark my words, Valarina, you won’t always get what you want.”

“We’ll see about that,” I say.

Declan has Gunthard stride to the other side of the bed. But then he plops down right on top of Valarina.

“What the heck!” I say. “You’re crushing her with your huge frame!”

“Sorry! I meant for him to take the other side.” He tries again, but he not only falls on top of my girl, he actually flings her off the bed.

“Oh my gosh! I just lost like half my health.”

“My bad.” Gunthard uses a restoration spell on her. “All better.”

“How ripped is he?” I grumble.

Declan turns around and beams at me. “He’s a beast of a dude, isn’t he?”

“And Valarina is this tiny little thing.”

“You know, Gunthard has a thing for little elves. Especially ones with dark blue hair.”

“Does he now?”

“Yes. And he wants to show how sorry he is by…” Gunthard walks over to Valarina and kisses her cheek. “Is all forgiven?”

“Dude. You think he can just kiss her and everything is a-okay? He crushed her.”

“She shouldn’t have tried to steal his spot on the bed.”

“Gunthard invited her! He can’t invite her to share his bed and then displace her like that!”

Declan laughs. And I laugh, too.

“I don’t get what happened, though,” Declan says. “It must be bugged. One sec. Let me try another bed.” The bed disappears from the room.

“If you think Valarina is going to try to sleep in his bed again, you’re sorely mistaken.”

“Here we go.” A new bed appears in the room. This one is not as lavish as the previous one. “I know it’s ugly,” Declan says. “But a bed is a bed, right? The mattress is perfect.”

“Says who?”

He lifts his chin. “Says me.”

“Ladies first!” I make Valarina lie down. And this time Gunthard drops down on the other side.

“There we go!” Declan says with a laugh. “Now we can get some much-needed sleep before we go adventuring.”
