“Declan, want to dance?” Tiffany offers. The rest of the girls cheer and squeal. I don’t have a chance to respond before they push me to the center of the room. The kids make room for us, as if we’re royalty or something.
There’s a huge group of kids dancing in a small space. It’s even more stifling than before. Tiffany grabs my hands and dances around. The rest of the group joins her, and it’s getting very hot and noisy.
“Why are you just standing there?” Tiffany yells over the music. “Everyone knows you know how to dance.”
Yeah, I’ve made quite a few dance videos with my actor friends and have posted them on Spill It!.
“Come on, let’s see those sexy moves,” Tiffany urges.
“Declan! Declan!” everyone chants.
I take a bow, then move my body from side to side, performing one of my most popular dances that went viral on social media.
Everyone cheers louder, many trying to copy me. We’re all crashing into each other, and as fun as this is, it’s a little too much too. But I love making my fans happy, and that’s what’s important.
After dancing for a while, I tell the kids I need a break and step to the side. A few kids hand me drinks, which I graciously accept. Luckily, they don’t linger by my side and give me a chance to collect myself.
“You’re even sexier than I thought,” Tiffany says as she stands next to me. “Those were some sick dance moves.”
“Thanks.” I take a swig of my Pepsi.
She tells me something about cheerleading, but my mind wanders and I catch sight of Mia dancing with her friends. Her friends are paired up with their boyfriends, but she’s all alone. Even though she seems to be having a good time, I see the loneliness in her eyes.
“Declan, what are you looking at?” Tiffany follows my gaze.
“Nothing. What were you saying?”
As she goes on, I find myself looking at Mia again. She walked away from her friends who are still dancing and is now talking to a freshman girl with curly brown hair. They only chat for a few minutes before the freshman is pulled away by a group of guys.
Now Mia is all alone.
She wraps her arms over her chest, as if she’s suddenly cold.
“Declan! You’re being rude,” Tiffany whines.
I snap back in and look at her. “Sorry, I was looking at something…I’ll be back.”
“What? But—”
I know it’s rude of me to leave her, but Mia is all alone.
It feels like it’s taking forever for me to get to her, pushing through the crowds of kids, some of which stop me to take more selfies, or to talk or dance. I hold up my hands, telling them I don’t have time right now.
Mia twists around and as soon as she realizes I’m headed her way, her eyes widen and she straightens up.
Chapter Twenty-One
Mia
Declan stops before me with a sweet smile, which makes him look even more handsome than he already is. “Hey, Mia.”
“Hi.” I tuck my hair behind my ear.
“I wasn’t sure if you’d be here.”
“Yeah, um…here I am. At the party.” I laugh lamely.
He nods with another smile.
