I grit my teeth as my fingers tighten around her neck. I’m not really tightening them, though. I’m careful not to hurt her.
“Would you like to try me?” I demand.
She lifts her head in confidence and defiance. “Yes, shoot me. Shoot me right now.”
I stare into her eyes, my chest heaving even more.
“I knew it. Now can you please get your hand off me?”
“Mia, don’t be so disgusted with him,” Tori says.
“Kind of impossible not to be,” she grumbles.
I scoff, tilting my head so my hair falls into my eyes. “Look who’s talking.”
She scowls at me. “You shouldn’t even be at my school.”
I narrow my eyes at her. “You can’t get rid of me that easily, Mia Park. You—”
“Mia, Declan? Please continue the scene.”
“Stop being a jerk,” she grits at me.
“Stop being so difficult.”
Her eyes flame. “Stop standing over me.”
“You’re supposed to be pinned to a tree.”
“Get off!” She presses her palms to my chest and shoves me back.
Tori dashes over to us. “Someone please tell me what’s going on.”
Mia glowers at me and I cross my arms over my chest. We look away from each other, neither of us uttering a word.
Is she seriously being this difficult because I accidentally threw a ball at her?
“Well?” Tori demands.
Again, we don’t say anything, just continue huffing in anger as we avoid each other’s eyes.
Tori glances from me to her. “Why are you acting like kindergartners?” she says, keeping her voice low so the others can’t overhear.
I look at Mia and she looks at me, raising a brow like she’s telling me she won’t be intimidated by me. I roll my eyes.
“You’re supposed to be professionals. Can I trust you to work like mature young people?”
Mia presses her lips together as she taps her foot. I keep my hard eyes on her, letting her know she can’t intimidate me. Tori asked me to play the part of William. She chose me. And no one, not even the great Mia Park, will take that away from me.
Tori sighs. “All right. Looks like I have no choice.” She faces the rest of the kids. “Take ten, everyone. I need to talk to our leads in my office. Come, kids.”
She doesn’t even wait for us to follow her. Mia twists her nose as she looks at me. Then she groans and marches after Tori. I follow behind, making sure to keep my distance from her.
In the office, Tori tells us to take seats. Mia doesn’t sit down and I lean my back against the wall, again keeping some distance between us.
Tori settles down at her desk and raises a brow. “Someone please tell me what’s going on.”
Mia throws her hands up. “He tried to kill me today in PE. And you saw how he wanted to hurt me just a few minutes ago. He wants me out of the play.”
