Evie grins. “Of course. We told you we’d love to.”
“I still can’t forget how amazing you were at the play, Mia,” Dani tells me as she pulls me into her arms. “The love you and Declan have for each other was so evident on stage.”
“Thanks.”
“All of our kids have found their soulmates,” Kara says with tears in her eyes. “How are we so lucky?”
Easton closes one arm around his wife and the other around Zack. “I believe good things happen to good people.”
“I agree,” Dad says, smiling at Mom with love shining in his eyes.
“I don’t want to cry,” Brayden says, blinking rapidly.
Dani waves her hand. “Cry all you want. It’s an engagement party after all.”
More guests continue to arrive, including Dani and Easton’s daughter, Ava, and her boyfriend Aidan, Lexi’s older brother. When Liam and Chloe come, Lily hugs her twin brother to death.
“I’m so happy for you, womb buddy,” Liam says, which makes Lily laugh. She’s been calling him that for years and he never really liked it.
Now that all the Junior Musketeers are together again, they walk off to the side with their guys to catch up. It’s so sweet to see how happy they are to be together again. I glance at Rylee and Zoey. “We’re so going to be like that, too.”
Zoey nods. “One hundred percent.”
“Now let’s get food,” Rylee says.
Like all the other times the Knights hosted parties, they laid out a lavish buffet, all the food prepared by gourmet chefs. And every single thing looks so darn delicious.
“There’s so much to choose from,” Rylee complains as she studies all the options. “Decisions…decisions…”
Kade’s eyes are huge as he takes everything in. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen so much food before in my life. The Knights are so generous for making this day special for Lily and Xavier.”
Zoey nods. “They’re the best.”
“Spencer looks so happy, doesn’t he?” Rylee says. “It sucks that he’s so sick, but he’s so radiant.”
“I know,” I say. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen him so happy.”
“Boo!” Someone wraps their arms around my waist and presses their lips to my cheek.
I spin around and squeal when I see it’s the love of my life. “Declan!” I squeeze him into my arms. And even though I know we’re in public, I press my lips to his. “I missed you so much.”
He shakes his head. “Not as much as I missed you.”
I catch sight of Chase and Miss Lane entering the ballroom, their hands clasped. I’m glad to report that Operation Love Birds continues to be a major success. The way Chase and Miss Lane look at each other is so adorable.
“I know,” Declan tells me with a laugh. “I would be more annoyed with my brother if I wasn’t so happy for him. Sometimes he’s so out of it he forgets where he puts things. And then he freaks out when he can’t find them.”
I smile as I snuggle up to him. “Life is good, isn’t it?”
He kisses the top of my head. “It sure is.”
“Where’s my man?” Rylee says with a frown.
“Elvis has entered the building,” Zoey tells her, nodding toward the doorway. Mason, his twin brother Jason, their mom, and her boyfriend Dennis have just walked in.
“Mason!” Rylee bounds to him.
The final guests arrive, including the Wests. Lexi looks so cute in her black dress.
