“Thanks.”
“Can you believe it?” Mom pokes her elbow into Ally. “Two of your kids are already engaged or married.”
“I know,” Ally says with a laugh. “When did we get so old?”
“Speak for yourselves,” Dad says. “I’m as young as a spring chicken.”
Mom playfully puts her hands on her hips. “You’re older than me.”
“Only by a few months.”
Ally’s face brightens. “Kara and the gang are here.”
Like the speed of light, Kara jets into Ally’s arms and hugs her and Lily, Xavier, and Zack so tight, they almost fall backward. Rylee and Mason and Brayden join us as well, Rylee wrapping her arm around me.
Then Dani comes out of nowhere and throws her arms around everyone.
“Where did you come from?” Kara laughs.
“I was giving instructions to the staff in the kitchen. Oh my gosh, I can’t believe Lily and Xavier are engaged.” She lowers her voice. “Who do you think will be next? Willow and Colt? I bet Liam and Chloe.”
Ally rubs her forehead. “Another one of mine?”
Zack chuckles as he wraps his arms around her waist from behind and presses a sweet kiss on her cheek. “What do you expect? With an amazing mother like you, why wouldn’t they want to have the same?”
She smiles up at him with nothing but love shining in her eyes. “With the kind of life you provided for us, I don’t blame them at all.”
He smiles and gives her such a sweet and passionate kiss.
“Liam and Chloe for sure, as soon as they’re done with school,” Kara says with a laugh. “I know my kid.”
That causes tears to enter Brayden’s eyes. “Not my little girl.”
“You still have another one.” Mom nods in Rylee’s direction.
Brayden grimaces. “She’ll grow up too soon, too.”
“I spy my eldest daughter and her man,” Dad says, eyes on the door. “Willow and Colton!” He waves them over.
With a squeal, Lily rushes to Willow as she bolts to her, and they meet halfway, throwing their arms around each other. Xavier and Colt hurry to join them, and soon they’re one big sandwich cookie.
Rylee smiles at me. “I hope we’re like that when we’re their age.”
“Getting engaged?” I ask.
She shakes her head. “Still best friends with an unbreakable bond.”
Returning the smile, I put my arm around her and lay my head on hers.
Slowly, slowly, more guests start to join us. Bailey, Zane, and Zoey finally arrive, and of course they waste no time congratulating and hugging the people of the hour and their families. Zoey and Kade sneak in a quick kiss.
“Hello, all of my favorite people,” Easton says as he joins us.
Ally wraps her arms around him. “Thanks so much to you and Dani for hosting the engagement party.”
“Of course,” he says. “We’re all family.”
Evie and Noah arrive, and after they congratulate the couple, Dani says, “You guys are going to sing for us, right? Because I already told the band that you will.”
