“You okay?” Kade asks.

“Yep.”

He shifts again, removing his hand from the tub and crossing his arms over his chest. He doesn’t touch the popcorn again and neither do I.

When we’re more than halfway into the movie, I nearly topple off my seat. Because there’s a kiss scene. An intense, all-consuming epic kiss scene that puts similar scenes from other movies to shame. There’s nothing inappropriate about it, but the way the two characters make out? Wow.

And it’s on a huge screen for everyone to see. I can’t look away.

I can feel Kade’s eyes on the screen as well. I don’t dare look at him, though. This is just too weird and awkward. I tried so hard to look for a movie with no romance and this one has such a passionate kiss scene?

Ugh. Kade is sitting right there. Right there. And his arm is so close to mine and I can feel the warmth emanating from his body.

To make things worse, there’s a couple in the row in front of us making out as well. I never really believed people actually kissed in the theater, but there you go.

When I peek over at Kade, I find him watching them as well. Ugh again. Why are they making everything so awkward?

I feel like I want to say something to him to rid this weird feeling, but maybe that’ll just make things worse.

Kade’s gaze treks to me, but I once again don’t dare look at him. But from the corner of my eye, I can tell his focus is back on the movie, so I quickly glance his way. But he turns his head and our eyes connect.

Every part of me tingles, especially where he squeezed my hand.

Needing to do something, I rip open the bag of M&M’s and pop a few into my mouth. Then I press the bag to his arm, offering it to him.

His warm hand touches mine as he accepts it. But before he eats them, he bends to me. “Are you sure?”

“Yeah. Take as many as you want.”

“Thanks.”

He takes a few in his hand, then passes it back to me, once again brushing his fingers with mine. Every spot he touches burns, but in a good way.

We finish the movie, staying away from the popcorn, which is mostly full. The lights come on and everyone starts leaving the theater.

Kade and I remain in our seats, me staring at the floor and he…I’m not sure what he’s looking at.

“Good movie,” he breaks the silence. He starts gathering the wrappers from the M&M’s and other snacks we ate. “Did you like it?”

“Huh? Oh, yeah. Mostly. The um…kiss was like…” I make an explosion with my hands.

He nods slowly. “Yeah.”

We’re both quiet.

I get to my feet. “We’d better leave before they kick us out.”

He stands, too, eyeing the popcorn. “Guess that tub was too big even for both of us.”

I glance down at the huge thing in my hands. “Looks like we’re taking it home.”

We leave the theater and walk side by side. His hand is so close to mine and the memory of his fingers locking with mine flashes in my mind.

Chapter Twenty-Eight

Kade

“Crap. I forgot my phone in the theater,” I tell Zoey. “Be right back.”
