He turned around, realizing he was trapped between his counter and my body. His eyes lit up with mischief and excitement, a smile ghosting his lips.

“Well, he seems to be kind of a loyal family guy, and he’s a pretty good singer, not to mention he’s hot as hell and brings out a side of me I didn’t know existed.”

“Is that so?” I whispered as Cade settled his hands around my waist, pulling me closer, flush against him. His fingers dipped below my waistband at my back, drawing little circles against my skin.

His eyelashes fluttered as he nodded.

“And I think...” He swallowed, his gaze dipping to my lips. His breathing caught in his throat, and he seemed nervous.

“What? What do you think?” I asked, imploring his gaze with my own.

Cade looked up at me with clear, blue eyes and in them I could see a hundred unsaid words, a thousand unspoken emotions.

I’d always dreamed of someone who would look at me the way he did that night in his kitchen.

I was head over heels in love with Cade Green.

Because when I looked in his eyes, I knew that the sky was the limit.

“I think I might be falling for him,” he whispered, his words shaky.

I reached out, pushing some stray strands of golden hair behind the shell of his warm ear.

“Are you scared of falling, Cade?” I whispered, even though we didn’t need to. However, it felt as though the words themselves were the size of great beasts.

“I’m just scared he doesn’t feel the same.” Cade leaned his cheek into my palm.

“I think he does,” I said as I leaned my forehead against his, taking a deep breath.

I’d never considered myself a courageous man on any account, but I’d also never been afraid of wearing my heart on my sleeve. I’d given so much of myself, my body, and my money to the wrong people in hopes of one day striking gold, that I’d never considered that love, real love, couldn’t be bought.

It was unearthed beneath rubble and dirt, it was born out of fate and circumstances beyond our control.

It was found where one least expected it.

Cade’s entire body relaxed as I slid a hand around his waist, pulling him close until I couldn’t stand it anymore.

I leaned down and took his lips like they were the dessert I’d been waiting for, for a thousand years.

Cade sank into my hold, wrapping his arms around my neck as he kissed me back, his lips and tongue still carrying a hint of buttery cheese flavor.

And when we broke away, Cade looked at me with a happiness that made my heart want to burst.

I never thought I’d ever be capable of making someone smile like that.

“It wouldn’t be a date without a movie to follow,” he said sweetly as he gently pushed me back.

I couldn’t help but smile in return.

CHAPTER 32

Weston

All the assumptions I’d had about Cade’s couch turned out to be true. It was the softest couch I’d ever had the pleasure of being sucked into.

Cade relaxed with his legs propped up on his ottoman, complete with adorable bunny slippers, one hand behind his head, completely in his element as he focused on the actors on screen.

I couldn’t tell you what was happening or even what movie we watched.
