I pulled out of the garage in search of my prince charming once more, ready to show him the best of both worlds.

Mine, and his.

Because at the end of the day, after a long and arduous day scheduling and approving, and planning this weekend’s fundraiser, all I wanted was two things: a stiff glass off Oban, and the man of my fucking dreams.

CHAPTER 38

Weston

“When you said date, I have to say I didn’t expect... this,” Cade said with a smirk as he got out of the car.

He’d been pleasantly surprised when I pulled up, even joking with me that he thought maybe I didn’t know how to drive since I was chauffeured everywhere.

I assured him I was an excellent driver, and he only shook his head. There were many things I preferred, but more or less it was because I was just accustomed to those things from the life I’d been living.

Not to mention, the men in my life prior to Cade only responded to the overzealous displays of affection like chauffeured rides to and from the hottest clubs, where we’d be seen throwing around the luxuries that built my life.

But that wasn’t who I was, not really. I’d done a damn good job of pretending to be the man they all wanted me to be, so much so that I’d convinced myself that was who I was.

But as I exited the car, smiling from ear to ear as the neon glow of M’s Place’s sign flickered, for the first time I felt free to just... be.

Myself.

I reached for Cade’s hand, tugging him closer and he blushed from the movement, but I didn’t miss the smile on his face.

“The last time I was here, I had a blast. Met this amazing man who showed me the time of my life,” I purred as I pulled him against me, against the hood of the car.

Cade looked up at me from under his lashes, smirking. “Is that so?” he asked coyly.

I nodded as I settled my arms around his hips, holding him close, if only because I didn’t want to let him go. Ever. I looked down into his eyes, and my heart skipped a beat.

“And I have it on good authority that it’s trivia night. Specifically, Star Wars trivia night,” I said with a grin.

Cade’s eyes lit up with surprise. “You’re serious.”

“Dead serious. I thought you might like it.”

Cade leaned down, taking my lips like a thief in the night.

“I love it, thank you,” he said, his voice barely a whisper.

I melted against his kiss, momentarily debating if I should just scrap this idea altogether, and whisk him away from here, take him back to the Rhodes Family home and shower him with all the love he deserved.

But that could wait.

“Don’t thank me yet. Not until we’ve beaten the other teams,” I said as I nipped at his lips, causing a soft chuckle to escape his throat.

“Ah, so there it is. You just want to win cool prizes.”

I seriously gazed back at him, my heart in my throat. The need to say it, those three little words was almost overwhelming. But I couldn’t. They disappeared on my tongue, making my entire body acutely aware that once I did say them... I’d be crossing a threshold into the unknown.

I’d never told any of the people I’d been with, that I loved them.

Love wasn’t what they wanted from me, anyway.

I reached up, brushing some soft, golden locks behind his ear, settling my hand at the base of his neck, fingertips stroking his skin and hair.

“I’ve already got my prize. The rest is just gravy,” I said, my voice betraying no hint at how utterly terrified I was.
