Ameline: Poor guy. How bad was it?
Gabe: He cried so much, but it’s definitely over. There’s no way he’ll go against your dad’s wishes.
Ameline: I don’t understand why she gave him an ultimatum when she knows how my father is.
Gabe: I honestly don’t think he loves her that much. I mean, if he did, he would ignore anyone, including your father.
Ameline: I’m wondering if I should discuss this with my therapist.
Gabe: What exactly?
Ameline: I don’t understand my brother’s actions. Choosing money over love.
Gabe: As I said, he doesn’t love her enough to lose everything he’s worked for.
Ameline: You’re probably right. Love seems so complicated. Not sure I want any part of it.
Gabe: Don’t be too cynical. You’re too young for that.
Ameline: Have you seen my family?
Gabe: I gotta go, class is starting. Talk later?
Ameline: Sure. Later. x
Chapter Thirteen
Ameline: She confirmed it. Izzy is not coming back for another three years—at least. Helen isn’t happy. She was already arranging her room.
Gabe: Was Izzy planning on coming back to their house?
Ameline: Doubtful. I think that’s why she’s staying away—so she doesn’t have to deal with Helen and her drama.
Gabe: Are you okay with the news?
Ameline: Nope, but there’s nothing I can do.
Gabe: Have you decided where you’re going to college?
Ameline: Does it matter?
Gabe: Of course it does. You have to be happy with the place. Even if all of them are within the one-hundred-mile radius.
Ameline: Can you come with me to visit them again? I don’t want to go alone.
Gabe: Will your father let you come to Seattle this weekend?
Ameline: Yep. I’m on my own since Dad is heading to Oregon to persuade Izzy from making a terrible mistake—Helen’s words.
Gabe: I can’t say I mind. At least you can come to check out some of those schools and we can spend the weekend together. It’s been awhile since you visited.
Ameline: Someone would say you missed me.
Gabe: Sorta.
Ameline: I kind of miss you too.
Gabe: Send me the list of colleges we’re visiting, so I can make a plan.
