She shoved me gently against the door. “Maybe you’ll want to spend more time up here now that I’m here,” she whispered against my lips.
Grabbing her hair at the back, I used it to tip her head back and stare into her eyes. “I think you’re right.” I kissed her long and slow, my cock already hard and ready for round three. After a few minutes, I pulled away and turned around to make sure the door was locked. Then, I pushed her onto the bed where she landed with a giggle.
She unzipped her hoodie and shimmied out of it. Her burner phone fell to the floor. “Shit, I better charge that. Hold that thought.” She grinned at me before picking it up and rummaging through her bag for a charger. As soon as it was plugged in, it began to ping and vibrate wildly with a bunch of notifications.
“Your phone normally that busy?” I asked.
She shook her head. “Not this one. Where’s my regular one, anyway?”
I pulled it from the nightstand drawer and handed it to her. She powered it on and set it down, then picked up the burner. I watched as her brow furrowed.
“There are sixteen missed texts and three missed calls.” I watched the blood drain from her face as she read the messages. She looked up at me, fear coloring her features. “We missed one.”
“What do you mean?” I asked, buttoning up and zipping my pants. Mood: ruined. She turned the phone around and showed me a text from a few hours ago.
V Boss: Bitch, your boyfriend should learn to shoot better. I’m coming for you when you least expect it. You will finish the job for us, even if we have to tie you to a chair. Once you’re done, I’m gonna shoot you in the head and dump your body in the ocean.
She swallowed hard. “What should we do?”
I took the phone from her and read the other messages. They were similarly threatening in nature. “First off, this guy is really stupid. Threatening to kill you after you do the job for them?” I snorted. “Then who’d maintain the website? And why would you even finish it if you knew you were dead once the job was done?” I scrubbed a hand down my face. “I gotta show Viper.”
She followed me downstairs, and I found Viper and MyAnna in the breakroom chatting. He held a coffee mug reading Have a Nice Day, but when he tipped it up to drink, there was a drawing of a hand giving the middle finger on the bottom.
“Boss, we have a problem.” I opened the text and showed it to him.
He quickly read it and his brow furrowed. “Just fucking great.”
“What’s wrong?” Shadow asked, entering the breakroom.
He handed the phone to Craig, and he read it. “Fuck.”
“The only thing we can do is let them come to us. I doubt they’re still in the Virgin Islands. He must have had quite the mess to clean up,” I said.
“Yep, ashes everywhere,” Shadow said. “I’m sure he’s pissed we killed all his cronies.”
“You mean you killed them all,” I said to him.
“We should have stayed and waited until they were all ash. Dumb oversight on my part,” Viper said, setting his mug into the sink.
I clapped him on his good shoulder. “It’s not your fault. When that last one didn’t turn to ash, I assumed he was human. They were too far away for me to tell.”
“So did I,” Shadow said.
“No, the guy with the ponytail is the main kidnapper,” Devon added. “I didn’t even look back after he was shot. I should have noticed, as well.”
I squeezed her to me. “It’s okay, beautiful. It was pure chaos.”
“Is Venom still here?” Viper asked.
“No,” MyAnna said. “He and his little family left a couple minutes ago.”
“Phoenix!” Viper called out.
He popped his head into the breakroom a few seconds later. “Yeah?”
Shadow showed him the text. He went to hand the phone to Shadow, but I took it.
“Not cool. I didn’t realize we’d left one alive,” Phoenix replied.
