“She doesn’t know what she’s missing.”
Jesse chuckled. “No, she doesn’t.”
Cassie made it through half her ice cream before she spoke again. “Does this mean we’re dating?”
“You haven’t changed your mind on me again, have you?”
She shook her head. “No. I haven’t changed my mind. I’m still worried, but the thought of seeing you at work but not being able to touch you again… to have you touch me…” Her gaze met his, her hazel eyes darker than usual.
Jesse put a spoonful of the rich ice cream in his mouth. “Is that something you think about a lot, Cassie? Me touching you?”
“Yes.”
He could see the pulse in her neck beating out a rhythm. She was aroused and he knew it wouldn’t take much to get her into his bed. And he did want her in his bed, but he also wanted to do things the right way.
Licking the last of his ice cream from his spoon, he stood and held out his hand for her. She took it and rose to stand beside him. Jesse slid an arm around her waist and pulled her against him. It had been two days since he’d kissed her, but it felt like weeks. He needed a taste.
She released a sigh the moment their lips touched. He could taste the chocolate ice cream lingering on her tongue. Her arms circled his neck and her fingers brushed through his hair as he pulled her closer to him. His erection pressed against her stomach, begging to be let free. The desire to feel her warmth surrounding him was almost too much and he knew he needed to get a grip on things before he lost control.
Breaking the kiss, he gazed into her eyes for a long moment, then kissed the tip of her nose. “How about a movie?”
She blinked. “A movie?”
He cleared his throat and took a step back. “You like movies, right?”
“Yes, but?—”
Jesse took her hand and led her to his large couch. He made sure she was comfortable, then reached for the remote.
CHAPTER 7
“Is this going to be a dirty movie?” Cassie asked. Things had been heating up a moment ago, and now she felt he was pulling away. Why had he stopped?
Jesse paused and lowered the remote. “Did you want to watch a dirty movie?”
“No. I just don’t understand why you suddenly want to watch a movie, that’s all.”
He’d planned to wait to have this conversation, but he supposed now was as good a time as any. She might decide to change her mind about a relationship after all.
Placing the remote back on the coffee table, he shifted in his seat to face her. “I want you to be completely comfortable with me, Cassie. From the little you’ve told me, your last relationship wasn’t full of a lot of trust or communication. That’s not what I want for us. In fact, to have the kind of relationship I desire, we both need to be completely open and honest with each other.”
Cassie nodded. “I know I’m a little hesitant sometimes. I don’t mean to be.” She paused. “I just don’t want to get hurt again.”
He took her hand in his. “I’m aware of that, which is why I’m trying to go slow with you. I need you to trust me.”
Her brow creased in confusion. “I don’t understand.”
“I’m a Dominant, Cassie. Do you know what that means?”
She didn’t answer right away. He could almost see her brain working. “Like the guy in that movie?”
Jesse grinned. “Yes and no. A Dominant’s first and foremost responsibility is to take care of the needs of his submissive.”
He waited for her to process what he’d said, giving her time. When she met his gaze again, he could see her anxiety. “And you want me to be your submissive?”
“Yes, I do.”
She didn’t pull her hands away from his, which gave him hope she wouldn’t get up and run screaming from his condo. Instead, she seemed to be taking in the new information, weighing it in her mind. “What would I have to do?”
