“She’s in her room. She’ll be out in a few.” Brie disappeared into the kitchen. “Did you want anything to drink?”

“No, thank you.”

Brie moved about the kitchen, loading the dishwasher. “So you and Cassie seem to be getting serious. I hear you’re meeting her family tomorrow night.”

“Yes.” He didn’t specify whether he was replying to her about him and Cassie getting serious or him meeting her family. Not that it mattered. The answer was yes to both.

“Her mom’s nice. She’ll ask you a million questions but given you’re…” Brie came around the corner and gave him a throughout once-over. “You. You’ll be fine. Her stepdad’s cool. He worships the ground her mom walks on. Her brother…well, you’re dating his sister, so…” Brie put an earring in one ear, tilting her head to the side as she did so.

Jesse had no doubt he could handle Cassie’s brothers. He was his father’s son after all. “Thanks for the heads-up.”

“Sure. No problem.” Brie tilted her head to the other side to put another earring on. “Just a reminder that if you’re playing a game, or if you end up hurting her, I’ll be right there beside them to make sure you pay.”

He nodded. “Noted.”

Finished putting her earrings in, Brie slid into her jacket and grabbed her purse. “Her bedroom’s down the hall to the left.” Then she winked and headed out the door.

Jesse walked down the hallway. The apartment wasn’t that big, so finding Cassie’s room was easy.

He’d imagined her room many times, but his visual images tended to hover around her bed. There’d really been no need to contemplate anything else.

Her bed was made up, nice and neat, with several smaller pillows. The bedspread was gray and purple. The rest of the room was clean and organized, but it felt lived in.

Cassie was dressed in a business suit, her hair pulled back away from her face and twisted into a clip behind her head. She was looking in a mirror, putting on a necklace.

A slow smile graced her lips when she saw him. “You’re early.”

“Am I?” he asked, propping himself against the doorjamb. She looked polished and professional and all he wanted to do was see her flushed and rumpled.

She finished fastening the clasp to the necklace, then crossed to where he stood leaning against the doorjamb. Tilting her head up, she met his gaze.

Neither of them said anything as his body began heating up. It would be so easy to pick her up, toss her on the bed, and take her, but he knew that would make them late. The last thing he wanted to do was cause more office gossip. He could take it, but he didn’t want to make things more difficult for Cassie.

Shifting them both, he backed her against the doorframe. He could see the pulse in her neck beating faster in anticipation. “Did you sleep well last night?”

“Yes, Sir.” Her answer came out sounding breathy and his cock twitched at her use of his title.

He brushed his nose against hers before dipping his mouth down to capture her lips. She tasted like strawberries and coffee. He loved being able to tell what she had for breakfast with a kiss.

Cassie circled her arms around his neck and met his tongue stroke for stroke.

He’d meant to keep the kiss short and sweet, but the woman drove him crazy. Cupping her ass, he lifted her feet off the floor, making sure she could feel how hard she made him. “Tonight, you’re coming home with me.”

CHAPTER 21

Cassie had thought for sure they were going to be late for work, but he’d ended the kiss and dragged her out of her apartment like the house was on fire. They made it with a few minutes to spare.

She’d had to reapply her lipstick in the car, but it was well worth it. He’d ridden up to the executive floor with her before promising to bring her lunch.

“Good morning, Mr. Masters,” Cassie said when her boss approached her desk a little before eight.

“Good morning, Cassie.” He smiled and disappeared into his office.

She spent the rest of the morning responding to emails and setting up next month’s calendar. At noon, Jesse brought her a sandwich and a salad from yet another restaurant she’d never heard of. They ended up in the conference room.

“How was your morning?” she asked before taking a bite of her sandwich.

“Still doing research.” He’d told her a little about what he was working on, but she understood he couldn’t go into too much detail. Not until he fleshed out exactly what was going on and who was involved.
