Propping himself against the headboard, he reached for his phone. She answered on the second ring. “Hello?”
“Hi, baby.” All she’d said was hello and he was already feeling better. “How was your movie night with Brie?”
“It was good. We watched Dune. The new version. Not the Patrick Stewart one.”
Jesse grinned. “I don’t think I’ve seen the new one.”
“It was good. Better than the original.”
He heard rustling around in the background. “Did I catch you at a bad time?”
“No.” More rustling. “I was just cleaning up the kitchen and starting the dishwasher.”
“Did you want me to call you back?” He was hoping she’d say no.
“No. I’m good. Heading to my room now.”
The only part of her apartment he’d seen so far was the living room, but that didn’t mean he hadn’t thought about her bedroom. He heard some more noise, then the sound of a door closing.
She released a contented sigh. “Safely tucked away in my room now.”
He chuckled even as his groin tightened at the thought of her in her room and what he’d like to do to her if he were there with her. His cock was already semi-hard. It wouldn’t take much to get him fully erect.
“How’d it go at the bank?”
It took a moment for his brain to switch gears. “About as well as could be expected. In the end, I got what I needed.”
“That’s good.” She paused. “Horse hooey!”
Jesse laughed. “Did I miss something?”
“Sorry. I forgot to call my mom today.”
“Do you normally call your mom on Thursdays?” He wasn’t understanding her obvious distress over not phoning her mother.
“No.”
He was missing something. “What is it, Cass?”
“I got a text from my brother today and I sort of let it slip about us. Well, not us, exactly, but he knows I’m seeing someone.”
As confessions went, this was rather tame. And he was having trouble figuring out how they’d gone from her not calling her mom to a text from her brother. “Okay. I’m not seeing the issue.” From her tone, she clearly thought this was a problem.
“Bradley is…” She paused. “Well, he’s a lawyer and he tends to be like a dog with a bone about stuff like this.”
Jesse chuckled. “Baby, you’re going to need to translate. I’m not understanding why you seem so worried. Our relationship isn’t a secret. Your family was going to find out.”
“I know.”
“So what’s the problem?”
“I just don’t want him to find out about…you know.” She said the last part in a whisper.
Ah. Now the pieces were coming together. At least as far as her brother was concerned. “Cass, it’s fine. We’re both adults. What we do together is none of his business.”
“I know that, too. But that’s not what I meant.” She paused. “I mean, I guess that’s part of what I meant.” She blew out a breath. “I’m dating my boss’s son. And I’m letting him do kinky stuff to me.”
He laughed. “We haven’t even scratched the surface on the kinky stuff I want to do to you.”
