Brie’s spoon stopped halfway to her mouth. She stared at Cassie for a long moment, then her mouth curved up into a smile. “Do you need some pointers? I know it’s been a while.”
Cassie rolled her eyes. “Stop it. I don’t even know if we’re going to…you know.”
Her friend scoffed. “It really has been a long time if you think a guy asking you to spend the night doesn’t mean you’re going to have sex. Maybe we need to start from the beginning. Go over the basics.”
“Very funny.”
“Well, I’m here if you need me.” Brie’s eyes shined with amusement as she ate her cereal.
Shaking her head, Cassie finished her bagel and cleaned up before heading to work with her overnight bag in tow. Stuffed in the side pocket was the limits list Jesse had given her. He hadn’t specifically asked her to bring it, but she felt it was better to be safe than sorry.
She tried to keep her mind on work as she scanned through the reports on her desk, but it was difficult to concentrate. All she could think about was what was going to happen later. Or, at least, what might happen later. She was equal parts excited and nervous.
The research she’d done on BDSM varied a lot. Some of it she thought she’d be okay with—maybe even like. But there were other parts she couldn’t see herself enjoying. Those were the parts that had her questioning her sanity. That and the fear she couldn’t please him. She wasn’t exactly the most experienced twenty-seven-year-old.
Of course, when she’d brought her lack of experience up to Jesse, he’d turned it around, saying he liked the idea. Given some of the things she’d seen in her research, that made no sense, but he’d told her to trust him and that’s what she was attempting to do. She only hoped she didn’t disappoint him.
By the time five o’clock rolled around, Cassie was a ball of nerves. She knew she shouldn’t be. This was what she wanted. Or, at least, she was pretty sure she did. But she couldn’t stop the worry churning inside her.
Shutting down her computer, Cassie walked to her boss’s door and knocked.
“Enter.”
She opened the door and stuck her head inside. “Was there anything else you need before I leave for the day?”
Blake Masters looked up from his computer. “I don’t believe so. Enjoy your evening, Cassie.”
She nodded, closed the door, and took a step back…right into a solid wall of flesh.
Jesse’s aftershave permeated the air around her a moment before his low, deep voice sent shivers down her body that settled between her legs. “Are you ready to go?”
Cassie swallowed, trying to control her heart rate. “Yes. I just need to get my purse.” She turned to face him and all attempts to regulate her heartbeat failed as she met his gaze.
He lifted his arm and she saw her purse dangling from two of his fingers.
“Thank you.” She took her purse and draped it over her shoulder.
“I’ll follow you to my place,” Jesse said, his voice making her want to beg him to touch her.
But she knew they couldn’t. Not here. Not now. There were too many curious eyes, and his father was in the next room.
Jesse smirked, his blue eyes darkening. He knew exactly what she was thinking. “If you keep looking at me like that, I’m going to ask my father if we can borrow his office.”
That got her feet moving. She couldn’t make it to her car fast enough.
It took them entirely too long to reach his condo. She kept glancing in her rearview mirror to confirm he was still behind her.
Jesse parked his car beside hers in the parking garage before coming to help her out of her vehicle. Tingles moved up her arm when he took her hand and guided her to her feet. He glanced in her back seat. “Where’s your bag?”
She licked her lips, desperate for moisture. “In the trunk.”
He bent down, his shoulder grazing her hip as he pulled the lever to pop the trunk. How could something so simple send her pulse racing?
Cassie released a steadying breath when he left her side to retrieve her bag. She felt hot all over and he wasn’t even touching her.
Jessie reached into the truck and grabbed her bag. He slung her overnight back over his shoulder, then closed the trunk. Their gazes met and his smirk returned.
He held out his hand for her and she took it. Lacing their fingers together, he placed a kiss on her forehead, then guided her toward the elevator.
