He released his hold on my throat, and I sucked in the first deep breath I’d been able to take since we started. My throat was a little sore, but it was the least I deserved after what I’d done to Rue.

We were both breathing hard, coming down. Kodee grew soft inside me and slipped from my body with a rush of fluid. I was pretty sure we’d made a mess of the sheets. Fuck it. I didn’t care. I’d throw down a towel.

Kodee looked at me, a smug, almost shy smile on his face. “You okay?”

I barely had the strength to respond, but I managed to nod in return. He leaned in and kissed me lightly on the mouth.

“Good. I’m going to grab a shower.”

He turned and walked across the room, toward the bathroom. I managed to prop myself up on my elbow to watch him walk away.

Kodee had a particularly fine ass. High and round, like two eggs in a handkerchief. The roundness of his derriere was highlighted by the dip into his spine and the narrowness of his waist. That, together with his broad shoulders and long, lean thighs, was pretty much why I would be happy just sitting and staring at him walking around naked all day.

Perhaps his physical perfection should make me more conscious of my distinct lack of perfection, but it didn’t. He’d never made me feel bad or self-conscious about my missing limb or my scars. Not that they were anything to be ashamed of. There were even people out there who had a thing about amputees. I didn’t spend time online, but there were even amputee groups where people joined pretending to be an amputee in order to meet one. That plan always seemed to have one fatal flaw, in my mind—didn’t the fakers realized they’d be caught out the moment they met? It wasn’t as though an amputation was a hidden disability. You couldn’t fake a missing limb in person.

Kodee turned just as he reached the door. “You’re welcome to join me.”

I gestured to my leg. “I’m not sure the bathroom is going to be set up to deal with this.”

He gave me a half smile that was tinged in sadness. “I’ll support you. I always do.”

I smiled in return.

Chapter Five

Rue

DILLON PLACED HIS GUN on the nightstand, and then went to the motel room door and checked the lock before doing the same to the window.

I eyed the weapon nervously. “Do you think you’re going to need to use it?”

He glanced over his shoulder at me. “I hope not.”

“What do you think the others are doing?”
