“Thank you for the breakfast, and it was pretty slick that you bought us the Tex Mex egg wraps.”
“Yeah, I thought it was pretty cute.” She grinned.
The rink was still quiet. It was still early, and they had a few moments to themselves. And as much as he liked talking with her, he wanted to kiss her more.
“Come with me,” he said. He led her back to their quiet corner of the rink. Tilting her chin up until his lips met hers, he kissed her.
“I have Tex Mex egg wrap breath,” she commented sweetly.
“Good, because I happen to love Tex Mex egg wraps.” Travis pulled her close and pressed his lips to hers.
He pressed her against the wall, and she molded her body to his.
Even though it was true they both had just eaten Tex Mex egg wraps, to him, her lips only tasted like berry, and the scent of her shampoo sent memories of last night through his brain. Pulling away so there was just enough room between them for him to speak, he whispered, “I had a really great time last night. I missed you after I left.”
A sweet smile slid across her lips. “Me, too.”
“I’m going to go work out in the gym until practice starts. I’ll stop by after?” He kissed her sweet lips.
She grinned. “I’ll be here.”
TRAVIS SPENT A GOOD hour in the gym working out. The place was empty besides one other person doing rehab. Checking the clock, he realized it was almost time for practice. He finished his last rep and put the weights back. Hurrying down to the locker room, he found it empty. He must’ve been super early.
He changed and put on his pads. Still no one else was here. He checked his watch—it was now ten-thirty, and practice was to start at ten.
Travis searched the back rooms. No teammates. No team chef. No Coach.
What was going on?
Maybe he had the wrong time. The best place to check was the front desk. He hurried out into the lobby. The bonus of going to the front desk was that he got to see Morgan.
“Hey, cutie.” He grinned, leaning on the desk.
“Hey rookie, what can I help you with?” she teased.
He cringed at that nickname. “I’ll answer to any other name, as long as you stop calling me that.”
“Oh come on, I think it’s kind of cute,” she said.
Rolling his eyes, he continued, “Did practice get pushed back?”
“Um, I don’t know, let me check.” She searched the schedule. “What time was it supposed to start?”
“Ten.”
“Um, I hate to tell you this,” Morgan winced as she spoke.
The tone of her voice made him suspect that Morris was involved. “I don’t think anything you say will surprise me.”
“It appears that today’s practice was cancelled.”
“Of course it was,” he said flatly. “Any idea when it was canceled?”
“Looks like it was canceled at seven this morning.” She shrugged. “I’m guessing you didn’t get the message?”
“No. And I’m guessing I didn’t get the message sent to me on purpose.”
“Oh no, that can’t be it.”
