Smiling, he gives a knowing nod. “I’m always right, baby.”
I sigh. “Uh huh. In any event, I realized a full-time job would give me more financial stability and make it easier to stay in New York.” I shrug. “So, I took it.”
I also realized I needed to take a chance on Design 454. I love working with them and believe in the work they do. I owe it to myself to see if working for them can be as satisfying as working with them.
“So.” I tilt my head. “What about you? What are you going to do now that you’re a man of leisure?”
He snorts. “I wish. I already have another job lined up.”
“Of course you do.” I shake my head. “What’s the job?”
“I’m working for the Stanhope Foundation.”
I furrow my brow. “Which is separate from The Stanhope Group?”
“Yes. Completely. They’re totally separate entities. And better yet, my family is barely involved with the foundation, even though it bares the Stanhope name.”
“Nice.”
“Yes.” He spreads his hands. “You’re looking at the new Director of Marketing and Communications.”
I grin. “That’s awesome, Cameron. Congratulations.”
“Thanks.” He shares my grin. “I’ve worked with the foundation in the past and always enjoyed it. The executive director is incredible, and I know I’ll enjoy working with her. And, more importantly, my family’s involvement is limited.”
I give him a hug. “I’m so proud of you.”
He tightens his arms around my waist. “Thanks. I feel good about the change.” He pulls back. “I can still contribute to my grandfather’s legacy but without all the family bullshit.” He smirks. “Or with more limited family bullshit.”
I kiss his cheek. “That sounds pretty perfect.”
“Hm.” He narrows his gaze. “You know what would make it perfect?”
“What?”
“If you’d finally agree to be my girlfriend.”
I widen my eyes, then tap my lip. “I’ll have to think about it.”
“Monica.”
I laugh. “Okay, fine.”
He raises his brows in expectation.
I roll my eyes. “I agree to be your girlfriend.”
“Because you love me.” He grins.
I try to frown but can’t help the smile spreading across my face. “Because I love you.”
“And I love you.”
We grin at each other until Cameron cradles my face and pulls me in for a kiss.
A sense of contentment washes over me.
I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.
