“It’ll all work out.”
I’m not sure I agree, but I nod anyway.
Chapter 34
Cameron
“You want to overhaul the website?”
Leaning back in my chair, I cross an ankle over my knee. “Yes.”
Archie drums his fingers on his desk. A desk I’ve always thought was far too big for his office.
One might think he’s compensating for something.
“Since you’ve brought this to me, I’m assuming Peters isn’t on board.”
Peters is the current CMO and is definitely not on board.
I shrug. “Peters is retiring. He’s understandably shortsighted.”
Archie smirks. “So he said no.”
“He said no.”
“Cameron, this is a decision the CMO should make. If not Peters, then whoever follows him.” He lifts a brow. “You haven’t been named CMO, little brother.”
“Not yet.”
He shakes his head. “You’re already trying to work around whoever gets the job.”
“I’m trying to get things moving. Our website is outdated.”
“You’re proposing a complete overhaul.”
“Yes.”
“That will require buy-in from the CMO.”
“Archie—”
“No.” He leans forward, driving his finger onto the desk. “Right here is your problem, Cameron. You’re not a team player. You want to know why you’ll always struggle at this company? Because you’re impulsive and impatient. We have a chain of command. A process. You can’t just do things your way because you’re convinced you know better.”
Being careful to maintain a neutral expression, I wipe a piece of lint off my pants. “In this case, I do know better.”
“Spoken like a spoiled child.”
Gritting my teeth, I unfold my legs and lean forward. “I have bent over backward to prove myself, Archie. My work speaks for itself. Peters and I haven’t always seen eye to eye, but he’s a dinosaur. He still thinks marketing should be marketer-driven rather than consumer-driven. I had to drag him kicking and screaming into letting us use social media for more than just advertising.”
“Which conveniently resulted in you promoting your playboy profile.”
I throw my hands up. “Archie, what more can I do here? Do you really doubt the work my team does has a positive impact? The Stanhope Group is synonymous with luxury not because you and father go around shaking people’s hands but because we’ve built that image.”
“Our grandfather built that image.”
“He started it, yes. But the image didn’t change with the times. It became outdated and stale. All I’m asking is that we continue to reflect the times, reflect The Stanhope Group brand.”
“It will have to wait until the new CMO is hired.”
