Page 108 of Not That Into You

“Which is why you came here.” Claire holds her drink up. “Cheers.”

Dre laughs. “Speaking of which, why don’t I go get us some drinks?”

We all watch as he makes his way to the bar.

“He didn’t ask you what you wanted to drink,” Hayley says with a sly smile.

“He knows what I like.”

“I bet he does,” I murmur before taking another sip of my drink.

The other women laugh as Anna shakes her head. She looks at me and squints. “You’re not one to talk.”

I sit up straight. “What do you mean?”

“I heard you’ve been getting naked with Cameron.”

“What? How? You just got here.”

She holds up her phone. “Group chat.”

I pull out my phone, and sure enough, there’s a message from Claire exclaiming, “They had sex!!” along with a number of suggestive emoji.

I stifle a growl and put my phone away.

Anna looks at the three other women. “You each owe me five bucks.”

I look at all four of them. “What?”

Anna smiles serenely. “We had a bet, and I won.”

I roll my eyes. I forgot about their bet.

“We figured you’d sleep with Cameron at some point.” Claire shrugs. “Personally, I thought you’d be bumping uglies the night of his father’s party.”

“I gave you until Sunday,” Gina says.

I look at Hayley with an expectant look. She shrugs. “I was the only one who didn’t think you’d sleep together.”

I never thought Cameron and I were a foregone conclusion, but I’m still oddly hurt. “Why not?”

She scowls. “Because I thought you were being honest when you said you couldn’t stand him.”

“Oh. Well... I was being honest. He annoys the hell out of me.” I shrug. “But he’s also...”

“Hot,” Gina says at the same time Claire says, “Hung.”

I glower at both of them. “That’s not it.” I blow out a breath. “It turns out he’s more than just a pretty face.”

Dre returns and places a drink in front of Anna before sitting down next to her. “What I’d miss?”

Before any of my “friends” can tell Dre about Cameron, I change the subject. “Just catching up. So, I heard you’re up for partner.”

“Yes, both Anna and I are up for partner this year.” He grins at Anna. “It should be a tight race.”

She snorts. “Hardly. You have to catch up to me first.”

Dre laughs, and the two of them take good-humored potshots at each other while I lean back, sighing inwardly. I’m surprised my upcoming trip to Ohio hasn’t made its way to our group chat, and I’m happy for the reprieve.
