“You had sex, though, right?” Alli asks.
“No. We didn’t have sex.” In the Hamptons.
“Really? No sex?” Gina asks.
“Why is this so unbelievable? We did not have sex.”
Hayley marches up to the table. “You had sex with Cameron!”
Groaning, I lean back in my chair and cover my face with my hands as Alli laughs and Claire yells, “I knew it!”
“Monica,” Hayley says.
I peek through my fingers to see Hayley standing with her hands on her hips.
“You owe me an explanation.”
My stomach dips, and I sit up straight, taking in her angry expression and the hurt look in her eyes.
My heart skips a beat. Is Hayley jealous? Does she see Cameron as more than a friend?
My face falls. “Shit, Hayley. I’m sorry. I didn’t know.”
She gives me a confused look. “You didn’t know I didn’t know? How would I know? You didn’t tell me!”
“No, I mean I didn’t know you have feelings for Cameron.”
She rears back. “What? I don’t have feelings for Cameron.” Her nose scrunches with distaste. “Ew. He’s like a brother to me.”
My shoulders sag with relief. “Oh. By your reaction, I thought maybe...”
“That I wanted to see him naked? No. Gross. I’m pissed because you lied to me. You told me nothing was going on between you two. And then I found you at Cameron’s last night, and something was definitely going on.”
“Oooooh,” the other women say, their attention rapt on Hayley and me.
Hayley looks at them while pointing a finger at me. “She didn’t come home last night.”
“Really?” Gina gasps.
“Hoo boy.” Alli laughs delightedly. “Tell me again about your no-sex weekend?”
I blow out a breath and briefly close my eyes before focusing on Hayley. “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you about Cameron. I was going to tell you.” I look around the table. “I was going to tell all of you, but I was waiting for Anna to get here.”
Hayley folds her arms across her chest. “Why didn’t you tell me on Monday night when I got home?”
“Because...” I shift in my chair. “Because you asked about the Hamptons, and we didn’t sleep together in the Hamptons. But...” I lick my lips. “We kinda slept together when he dropped me off.”
“On Monday night?” asks Hayley.
“Yes.”
She narrows her eyes.
I lift my shoulders and let them drop. “He dropped me off and then... it just kinda happened.”
“In his car?” Hayley gives me a horrified look.
“No. No. In the apartment. In my bedroom.”
