Logan finished testing the rest of my battery-operated purchases. He snapped the gloves off with what felt like an exaggerated motion. I hoped I wasn’t drooling.

A playful smirk tugged at the corner of his lips, and he leaned forward. “Not one.”

Glancing at his forearms again, I wondered what it would be like for him to bend me over the counter, pluck the paddle from the holder behind him, and spank me until I begged for mercy. It took me ten seconds to form some sort of reply while the tension between us sizzled.

“It’s such a beautiful piece of wood. It’s too bad no one gets to play with it. Not that I know a lot about wood. Uh, not that I don’t. The craftsmanship is remarkable.” Shit! Why had I said all that out loud? Why did I keep saying the word wood? It had been many years since anyone flustered me like this. For Logan to do so without touching me seemed impossible. Where had this man been hiding my whole life?

“I happen to know quite a lot about wood. But I didn’t say it wasn’t used, only that I don’t have any shoplifters.” He tapped the card reader next to the register.

Drawing my attention away from his incredible eyes and his playful retort, I scanned my card. “Huh. Well, it’s gorgeous anyhow.”

“Thank you for the compliment. I make implements in my spare time, and it was one of my first pieces.”

Owned a sex-toy shop. Crafted paddles and referred to them as implements. Could he also be into BDSM and its many dynamics? I dared to look at him after connecting the dots in my head. “Do you wield them in your spare time too?”

“I’ll answer you, Karsyn, but it’s personal. Are you sure you want to know?”

“Why the hell would I ask if I didn’t want to know?”

It felt like time stopped when he rounded the desk and handed me a card. Logan leaned into my ear, his hot breath caressing the shell without him touching me.

“Sounds like you are a bit worked up, Karsyn. If you’re actually interested in what I do away from here, which, does include wielding lots of things, reach out via the website or send an email. No pressure.”

I glanced at it, not really registering the information but vaguely recognizing it. Creekside Lounge, the BDSM club close to Eli’s house. “I didn’t ask you for a demo.”

“The store shuts down for lunch in two minutes. If you’d like a preview, I’m happy to indulge your curiosity.”

It took every bit of restraint I had not to jump up and down. “I appreciate your offer. However, I must drive home. Navigating back to Falcon Creek with a burning ass and a–” I slammed my mouth shut. I’d almost said a dripping pussy. Logan did not need to know the effect his words had on my naughty bits.

“No worries, you don’t need to explain. If you change your mind, you know how to contact me.”

“Yeah, I will. Thank you for the toys. Uh, I mean for ringing up my stuff,” I babbled before taking several steps backward.

“Have a good day, Karsyn.”

“You too!”

Hustling out of the store before I changed my mind, I knew one thing for certain. Logan would be starring in my fantasies tonight.

CHAPTER 2

KARSYN

Sitting at The Kicking Donkey, I took a long, slow slip of my Malibu bay breeze. Grant, the owner of the bar, strode by, kissing my friend Kendall on her forehead and tapping my shoulder as he passed me. I nodded to him, but he strutted out the front door with an unreadable expression on his face. I hoped everything was okay.

Kendall sat on the barstool next to me. She worked at Harmony Grove hospital as a nurse. I spent a lot of time there on my job as a pharmaceutical representative, so we frequently bumped into each other and became friends.

Lately my career choice left me feeling hollow and unfulfilled. I needed more. Wanted more. But now wasn’t the time to think about that. I pushed the thoughts away and gestured at the front door. “What’s up with your boyfriend?”

“It’s a long story, but he will be gone for about an hour.”

I raised both of my eyebrows. “Come on, spill it.”

“I don’t honestly know where to start. It’s nothing bad. Our boyfriend, Dalton, just got off work, and well, they need to spend some quality time together.” Kendall sipped her iced tea.

Eloise whistled. “Grant didn’t look so happy for that sort of quality time.”

“Shhh.” Kendall waved her hand. “When are you going to give in and have some fun in your spare time? Since you moved back, you’ve been doing everything to stay busy.”
