By the serious but satisfied way that Lark is looking at me, I know that they are.
Lark lowers my legs off his shoulders, turning to kiss my knee as he does. “You’re prepared. Time for our Chief Alpha to give my woman the knot that she needs.”
“I want Gabe to knot me first!” I blurt the words, before I can stop myself.
Then I shake, as adrenaline surges through me.
Lark hisses out a sharp breath, before sitting up as tall as he can and trying to look intimidating, even though Kai is at least twice as large as he is.
The Chief Alpha has the right to knot an Omega first.
Always.
It’s breaking the rules for a pack member to request anything different.
It’s taboo for an Omega to do that.
Kai may be a liberal Alpha but even he can’t overlook that disrespect.
In distress, my scent sours.
“She doesn’t know what she’s saying,” Lark insists, valiantly. “This heat is messing with her mind. It would be wrong to punish her and dangerous too. I’ll stop you, if you try.”
Gabriel’s lips twist into an unwilling smile. “I don’t doubt that. I’d have been happy to have you in my army unit because you’d always have had my back. Loyalty and courage like yours is admirable.”
“And hot,” Antonio adds.
Lark’s eyes narrow. “I’m not joking.”
Kai runs his thumb along Lark’s cheek, soothingly. “Aye, lad. I gathered by the rumbling growl. Listen, I’m not an American Alpha. Whatever toxic beliefs you hold about dynamics, I don’t. The nest. Heats. The first knotting. In Scotland, these are all sacred and within the power of the Omega. I worship you, Mercy. Everything that happens here in this bed is your choice. I’m simply honored to be part of it.”
My eyes burn with tears.
What he’s saying is beautiful.
A gift.
Lark’s eyes are gleaming with tears too, but they’re happy ones.
I think that Lark’s beginning to believe that this pack is telling the truth.
Finally, their actions are showing that he can trust them.
Lark moves to the side.
I hold my hands above my head, encouraging Kai to hold them. I want the connection with both my Alphas, during the rut.
Kai growls his approval, and his canines glint in the light.
He settles one strong hand around my small wrists, pinning me in place.
Yet I feel safe and anchored by his touch.
As my core throbs, hot and desperate for stimulation, I stare up at the glass ceiling out to the wide, blue sky.
It’s vast and bright.
It’s the freedom that I never thought I’d have again.
