“If anything happens, I’ll blame your father.”
A flare of excitement lit Andrea’s eyes. “Can I put a photo of us on Instagram so he’ll have to come and beg me for help when that happens?”
“That’s too obvious. Did you tell your captain that you were coming to work for me?”
Andrea nodded.
“Then we’ll take a photo of you in the garden with the bay behind you. He’ll figure it out.”
“That’s perfect.” Andrea checked her phone when the screen lit up. Her brows flicked up, and she grabbed her phone.
“What’s wrong?”
Andrea put down her phone. “Nothing.”
Clary rolled her eyes.
“Nothing you want to talk about.”
Her brows puckered at the particular wording. “Seth contacted you?”
Andrea shook her head. “Murphy’s trying to cast the net wider and see if Mr. Anderson has any enemies in his past. He can’t seem to find much.”
Clary put her chopsticks down. “Andrea, what I told you—”
“Stays with me. Unless you give me permission to share.” Andrea arched a brow. “Do I—”
“No.”
“Understood.” Using her fingertips, Andrea swiped her phone further away from herself. “But it’s for his own safety.” Her eyes narrowed. “Unless you and Mr. Anderson already know who that man was, and that’s why neither of you seem worried about it.”
Clary poked her chopsticks into her noodles.
“You’re being evasive.”
“Are you saying that as Detective Lowe or my assistant?”
Andrea picked up one of the boxes on the dining table. “It’s lunchtime, so how about as a friend?”
“Seth has a complicated history.” She shrugged. “That’s all I can say.”
Andrea shook her head. “Since you care about him enough to continue protecting him, then you should just talk things through with him. You don’t want to look back on this and wonder what could’ve been if you’d just opened your mouth and talked to him.”
“It sounds like you have a story to tell.”
“Not me, and it’s a story for another day. And if I’m being honest, I just really want to know what’s in the watch.” Andrea checked her phone again, and her lips curled.
“Good news?” Clary asked.
Andrea’s grin grew wider, but she shook her head again. “Great news.”
“About the watch?”
Andrea waved it off. “Who cares about the watch?”
Chapter 22
Seth sighed the moment he opened the door to his apartment. He’d stayed at the office later than usual because he didn’t want to run into Oliver. His brother had a fixed schedule. At nine, Oliver should be showering.
