I take a shaky breath before continuing. “When I came
out of the bathroom, I heard you talking about Asher. I
didn’t catch everything but…it didn’t sound good. I’m not
sure if it’s the same Asher.”My voice trembles as fresh tears
roll down my cheeks. “How do you know Asher?” Vince’s question hangs in the
air as I struggle to find my voice. A lump forms in my
throat as the memories come flooding back.
“He was my guardian angel,” I finally whisper. My voice
cracks. “Whenever Ian’s crew came after me, Asher tried to
fight them off. He took beating after beating, but he never
stopped trying to protect me.”
I pause, blinking back tears. “They made him watch
when they…” My voice trails off. I can’t bring myself to
say the words.
Vince’s jaw tightens, his eyes filled with sorrow and
