“What do you mean? What happened?” I demand
anxiously.
“The damage was pretty extensive,” he explains gravely.
“She lost a lot of blood and there were too many internal
injuries to repair completely.”
My heart feels like it’s breaking as I listen to him speak.
Emma didn’t deserve any of this. She was just an innocent
victim caught up in something far bigger than herself.
“We need to find out who did this,” I say firmly. “And we
need to make them pay.” I pretty much know who did this
but I want to make sure I get the right guy. I want that
motherfucker choking on his own blood.

I wake up feeling groggy and disoriented. I hear
beeping and I smell a lot of antiseptic and rubbing alcohol. I
don’t try to open my eyes just yet as I hear some quiet
whispers. I’m trying to figure out who the hell is talking. I
