I feel my stomach drop as I realized what Pops was

talking about - the job from last night that had gone wrong.

We busted Ian and Joseph and tried to save the girls but

they were quick and were basically gone when we got

there.

“Pops, I thought she was already dead,” I protest. “She

wasn’t moving! She wasn’t even breathing!”

“She could have seen both of you, are you fucking

stupid?” Pops snapped back.

“Pops, Vince is telling the truth,”Marco interjected

urgently. “I walked in after him and she wasn’t moving. We

got everyone else but she was bruised and beaten up real

bad.”

Pops glared at them both for a moment longer before

speaking again - this time in a softer tone: “What

happened?”

I take in a deep breath before giving him an explanation.

We had been sent to collect money from someone. Ian and

Josephwho were involved in the human trafficking market.

I tell Pops about how we had stumbled upon her by

accident and how we had killed her captor when we saw

what he was doing to her.

But we didn’t get the right one.

“It just didn’t seem right,” I say quietly, feeling ashamed

of myself for not realizing sooner that something serious

was happening.
