“As your daughter?” I asked, shocked at the sentiment.
Her smile softened and she nodded. “Yes, silly girl. Why do you think I told you that even if you left Caleb you would always be welcomed here? I view you as my new daughter and I will do everything within my power to help you. Okay? So, don’t fret about the queen stuff. That’ll happen much later anyway.”
“Right,” I breathed and nodded. The icepack had melted now, so pulled it away from my face.
She flinched. “We definitely need to get that healed. It looks bad.”
“It doesn’t hurt anymore,” I said, but didn’t touch it.
“Let me call Fox, if he doesn’t answer I’ll call Kara,” she said and pulled out her phone.
After she got off the call with them, I asked, “Why were you all huddled together earlier? Why did you run out of the kitchen when I told you about his dream?”
“I have a power that doesn’t manifest often, but occasionally shows up and terrifies me. I am worried that his bad dream is actually him using that power.”
“Why are you being vague?” I asked with a growl. “What power?”
“Premonition,” she answered. “I have dreams that sometimes come true.”
“What was his dream?” I asked with a frown.
“That you end up sacrificing yourself to save them,” she answered.
Well, fuck.
Chapter
Twenty-Three
“We’re going on an adventure,” Jolie informed us one weekday morning where we were all lounging on the couch watching television.
“What kind of adventure?” Caleb asked, eyes narrowed.
“One to allow Ember to experience more of the world and the fun things we take for granted. Get ready. Wear comfortable clothes and tennis shoes.”
“I hate when she’s vague,” Caleb groaned and got up to go change since he was still in his sweats.
Triston pulled me onto his lap sideways and kissed my cheek. “Since I’m changed, I get to have kissy time.”
Turning my face, I kissed his lips and said, “Kissy time is one of my favorite times.”
“Same,” he said and kissed me harder.
“Come on, you two help us carry things to the car,” Rhys ordered.
“Cockblocker,” Triston whispered making me laugh.
“What was that?” Rhys asked, growling softly.
“You’re a very scary and powerful alpha,” Triston said as he stood and set me on my feet.
“Mmhmm,” Rhys muttered. “I think you’re getting a little too cocky and we might need to spar tomorrow.”
“Ember!” Jolie called from the kitchen. I went inside and took the box she handed me. “To the car,” she ordered.
“Yes, ma’am!” I shouted and hurried out, smiling as I heard her laughter behind me.
The boxes were closed, so I had no idea what they were bringing or had any clues as to where we were going.
