Melody repeats the name, rolling it between her lips before nodding.
“I like that name.”
Shelby is still face-planting the bed when we stroll in, deep snores filling the room.
Melody watches me as I shrug my friend awake, holding back her laughter when Shelby lifts her head, her eyelids still stuck together.
“What the fuck?”
“Shelby!” I hiss as Melody gapes at Shelby. “Melody is here!”
Shelby frowns, swinging her head around to see Melody staring at her in awe.
“Oh, I’m sorry, Melody!” Shelby moans, holding her head. “Don’t tell my mom you heard me curse, okay?”
A smile plays on Melody’s lips.
“You’re pretty.”
Shelby snorts, and I try not to make a face when she turns to me, mascara running down her cheeks.
“Stop laughing at me. I need water.”
Melody frowns, and I hand Shelby the water from the bedside table. Melody sits on the bed gingerly, cocking her head as Shelby gulps down the water.
Even with makeup running down her face, Shelby is beautiful.
“Daddy and Ivy slept on the sofa because you slept here,” Melody declares, crossing her arms. “And this is a big bed.”
Shelby lifts her eyebrows, turning to me with a wicked grin.
“Oh, they did?”
Melody continues.
“Daddy had his arms around her.”
Shelby moves her gaze to me, nudging me in the ribs. “Were you guys cold?”
I give her a death stare, hoping she gets the message. I’m not discussing this in front of Griffin’s daughter.
“Anyway, I want breakfast.”
Melody skips out of the room, leaving Shelby giggling beside me.
“You fucked him, didn’t you?”
“Shelby,” I wail, praying Melody is out of earshot. “Keep your voice down.”
Shelby grins at me, sitting up and crossing her legs as she looks around the room.
“Wait ’til I tell everyone I slept in Griffin’s bed.”
“Without Griffin,” I add dryly.
Shelby sticks her tongue out.
“I’ll tell Christina, and you can thank me later.”
