With that, he walks away, his fingers trailing over my arm as he does.

Oh, my God.

GRIFFIN

If Ivy thinks she’s letting that little prick put his hands all over her, she’s fucking mistaken.

He’ll want her to stay in this town with him, and he’s got no way of looking after a girl like Ivy. The last I heard, Finlay was stealing cars.

What a hero.

“You wanna explain your reaction out there?” Kevin asks cheerfully, handing me a tray of raw meat.

Shit.

So Kevin noticed my little outburst.

“It doesn’t matter.”

Kevin raises his eyebrows at me, a skeptical expression on his face. Beside him, Shelby finishes buttering bread rolls, and I don’t miss the way Kevin watches her leave.

“Ivy has a good head on her shoulders, Griffin. She won’t be with a loser.”

I shrug my shoulders.

“I don’t want her messed up, is all.”

Kevin crosses his arms over his chest and sighs.

“She’s got one Dad already, Griff. She doesn’t need another.”

I whip my head up to his.

“That’s not how I feel about her.”

Kevin frowns, his eyes drifting past me to the door where Shelby is.

“Sorry, should I take that?” Shelby nods at the meat in my hands, and I shake my head.

I’m not having this conversation with Kevin when I’m this pissed off.

I move past Shelby, who looks between Kevin and me with wide eyes.

I hear her ask Kevin if everything is okay, but the door soon slams shut behind me.

Ivy has turned over, her back now bare to the rays of the afternoon sun.

I grill the meat, trying my best to ignore her.

Her phone keeps beeping, and I’m getting more agitated with each noise.

“Is that him?” I drawl, focusing on the meat.

“So what if it is?”

I grind my teeth together, forcing myself to keep calm.
