“The brother is here,” Bash informs us as he looks at his phone.

Logan used Breeane’s phone, which was still on the cottage’s floor, to call her brother. He agreed to meet us—we lied and told him she would be here, too.

Caleb descends the stairs slowly, his eyes darting through swollen eyes. They stop when they land on Trevor. Heath must have gotten a few hits of his own. I see him gulp and look at my bloody clothes. Logan isn’t as covered as I am, but he certainly got his turn with the man—he was as pissed as I was.

Caleb stops on the last step. “Where’s Breeane?”

Logan steps in front of him, close enough to grab him if he runs. “She is at home recovering from what you put her through. She was in pain and scared.” Logan wipes at the blood on his white T-shirt, which just makes it worse. “We don’t like people that terrorize our mate.”

“I didn’t mean—”

“I don’t give a fuck,” Logan shouts, cutting him off. “You know what we are?”

“Yes,” he answers.

“How?”

“I’ve heard whispers while around the men who work for Heath. He confirmed it when I expressed interest in watching the fights; he was trying to scare me.” His eyes flicker.

“Did it work?” I ask curiously. I am amazed he willingly came into a room with shifters that could kill him in an instant for what he did.

“Yes,” he mumbles.

“Good.” Logan looks around the room. “This is where you will end up if you cause any more pain to our mate. You know what a mate is, right?”

“Yeah.”

“Your sister is ours. We will not allow you to speak to her until you have straightened your shit out. Understand?” Logan asks roughly.

“I understand.” Caleb nods. “Is she alright?”

“Do you care?” I rasp.

“I can admit I haven’t been a good brother for too many years. I do love her, though, even if I haven’t shown it.” He hangs his head.

“Then prove it,” Logan snaps.

“You're right. Can I reach out when I’m better?”

“You can reach out to me or my brothers. We will decide if you are lying,” Logan informs him.

“You would stop her from having me in her life? Isn’t that her choice?” He frowns.

“Watch it,” I snarl.

Logan put his hand on my arm as I leaned toward Caleb. “We won’t stop her. She always has a choice, but we also will protect her. She has told us and you many times that she doesn’t want to see you. She doesn’t want or need you in her life like this. You are going to have to work very hard to earn her love and trust.”

“Right.” His body loses the fight. “Would you tell her I love her? That I’m sorry?”

“Yes. You can find your way out.” Logan motions to the stairs.

“You showed restraint,” Elijah says, watching him leave. “I’m surprised and somewhat disappointed.”

“Bloodthirsty,” Bash utters.

“Look who’s talking, vampire,” Elijah shoots back, and they grin at each other.

“Ryker said that from now on, whoever uses this space has to clean it,” Bash explains. “We are tired of cleaning up other people’s mess.”
