His eyes narrow on mine as he walks slowly to me. He’s like a lion prowling ever so slowly toward his prey.

He closes in on me and I retreat, stepping backwards as my eyes dart toward the door.

He loosens his tie as he nears.

“You’re my slut. I think it’s time…” Intense black eyes burn with both power and interest as they stare at me.

Taking another step backward, I shake my head. My hand flicks out as I fumble for the handle.

“It’s time you showed your appreciation for this job.”

“Appreciation?” I hold the handle and pull, but the door stays closed. Blood thrashes in my ears as I pull it again.

“I told you in the interview. We had to help each other.” There’s too much menace in his tone.

I’m locked inside his office and I know exactly what he means.

“Now it’s time for you to reciprocate,” he says gruffly.

And I do the only thing I can think of—I let out an almighty scream.

Chapter 5

Harrison

As my hand moves towards the silver button on the elevator, the shrill sound of my phone pierces through the serene atmosphere of the lobby, demanding attention.

For a moment, I pause to consider not taking the call and continuing with my journey, but when you have billions of dollars on the line, ignoring calls isn’t an option.

I grab my cell, expecting to see Finn’s name but instead I see her name on the screen.

“Gabby,” I murmur.

After taking her photo in the coffee shop, I got her details from my ‘Find this Person’ app. Not that I’ll ever reveal that to her.

I pause with my fingers suspended in the air, taken aback by her prompt response to my job offer. Especially considering how hesitant she seemed less than an hour ago.

Perhaps it’s a swift ‘no thanks’ and I find myself torn between ignoring her call, giving her more time to think it through. I chew on my lip, unsure of what to do next.

The elevator doors slide open with a soft chime, inviting me to step inside. But as I enter, a wave of uncertainty washes over me. Could this be the moment I’ve been waiting for? The moment when everything changes?

Anticipation builds as the elevator starts its ascent, and I can’t help but wonder if this is the beginning of something new.

Before answering, I take a deep breath, feeling the air fill my lungs. “Hello.”

A sob catches in her throat, and she stammers out, “K-Killian...”

“Gabby... are you okay?” I ask her calmly, knowing fine well she isn’t, but not wanting her to disconnect in a panic, because there is definite fear in her tone.

The elevator stops and I hit the button for it to return back down.

She sniffles, making my heart thud against my ribs as I wonder what caused her unexpected call, considering her tone.

“He… My… Uhh…” Her voice trembles with so much distress she form her words.

With each of her gasps, my fingers instinctively tighten around the phone, my heart constricting in response

“Talk to me Gabby.” I keep my voice low, not wanting to her to disconnect in her distress. “What happened? Are you okay?”
