She smelled warm and musky, the smell of lust, passion and need, and it thrilled him more than he was prepared to analyse. He just kept licking, lapping her moistness and turning her on until she could no longer stop the unstoppable.

With a groan, she bucked and spasmed against his mouth, and only when she was utterly spent did he blindly fumble in the wallet that had hit the floor along with the rest of his stuff, extracting the foil packet he always kept there.

Heat was pouring through her body.

She half-opened her eyes and looked at him with glazed fascination.

Had this really happened? She’d been taken out of deep freeze and the burn of desire was tearing into her with devastating force. My goodness, never had she been pleasured in such a way before, feeling the earth swirl around her as she rose higher and higher to come straight into his exploring mouth.

Helen knew that she should have felt some sense of horror at barriers not just crossed, but thoroughly stampeded over, but she didn’t. She felt powerful, energised and wildly replete.

She curved against him and her fingers trembled as they skimmed over his hard, muscled body.

‘I’m sorry,’ she murmured without too much regret in her voice. ‘I should have waited, but I just couldn’t.’

‘Nothing has ever felt sexier,’ Gabriel growled. ‘Unfortunately, I’m so damned turned on that I don’t think it’s going to be a slow and lingering journey right now. I just want to feel you around me.’

Helen could think of nothing better. She was dimly aware of him donning protection, giving her body time to calm down a little, because after all this time being touched made her feel as if it was the first time.

He mounted her and entered in one deep thrust, and all those tingling nerve endings that had begun to flatten vibrated back into life and, as he pushed deeper and deeper into her, she could feel herself soaring once again, her whole body climbing up and up to an orgasm that was shattering when it came.

Reality only returned when her sharp, mind-blowing arousal and shattering orgasm ebbed away.

He’d rolled off her and was lying flat on the bed, staring up at the silk canopy above them.

What was he thinking?

Helen wondered whether she should be feeling regretful because she wasn’t. She’d invited him to touch her and there wasn’t a single part of her that wasn’t content with the decision she’d made, even though it went against all common sense. In terms of her position as his secretary, frankly it couldn’t have been worse.

She reached to cover herself and he stayed her hand, turning on his side to face her.

‘Don’t. I like looking at you.’

Helen adjusted her position so that she could likewise look at him.

‘I don’t think either of us can pretend that this never happened,’ she said quietly.

‘I feel that would be a tall order.’

‘And I accept the consequences because I wanted this as much as you did.’

‘The consequences...’

Helen breathed in deeply and her steady gaze didn’t waver. It was distracting because he was playing with her hair, stroking it away from her face, and his slumberous eyes were doing all sorts of stupid things to her body and making a mess of her head.

‘Where do we go from here? How are we supposed to just pick things up and carry on?’ she said. ‘I accept that you’ll have no choice but to let me go.’

‘I’m surprised that you feel you know what’s going on in my head.’

‘Isn’t that what’s going on in your head, Gabriel? You play the field with women and, when it’s over, it’s easy for you to move on because you don’t have to carry on seeing them. Well, it’s a little different in this case, isn’t it? You’ll have your error of judgement staring you in the face every day, and it would be unacceptable.’

‘Who ever said anything about it being an error of judgement? You act as though this has sprung from thin air, but has it? We’ve been circling one another for days, chipping away beneath the surface. We’ve crossed more barriers than I even recognised were in place! And we both know there’s been more than than—more than just finding out things about one another we never knew before.’

‘I’m your secretary.’ Her skin was hot and prickly, her body still tingling from being touched.

‘You’re a sexy, beautiful, smart woman I wanted to sleep with—who wanted to sleep with me.’

Helen blushed at his description. Smart—yes, she would concede that. But sexy? Beautiful? She’d never thought of herself as either of those things. With every word she could feel herself hurtling deeper and faster into the unknown.
